My grandson was struggling with reading back when he was 7, I bought him the Captain Underpants series of books because that is the series I bought for my son back when he was 7 and struggling with reading (he is now 26). It worked for my son all those years ago and again now for my grandson. He flew through that series and has now read the first 3 of the My Big Fat Zombie Goldfish series. He thrives with reading now and reads every night when he goes to bed. I bought his a little booklight as well. I asked him how the first 3 books were, and he has read the 1st one in the series and looking forward to the next 2 that are waiting at his bedside. I just bought 4-7 for his birthday coming up. I highly recommend these books for any child - those that like to read and especially for those that do not! These creative stories work magic with children struggling to read. Fun, funny and interesting. Your grands will be begging you to purchase the next one for them! Books are such a great gift!

I got this series for my 9 yr old son and we are only 6 chapters in and it is so good. It is funny and the author is really good at telling the story through the boys point of view. Highly recommend!

Getting my almost 9 year old son to read is really a challenge! He struggles with ADHD, and sitting still and being entertained by something that involves no moving isn't easy for him. We struck gold in the Bad Guy's series. However, we were buying two a week and he was reading them both in less than an hour leaving the rest of the week with him begging for more books and us wanting a quite time, brain-using activity. I was looking for a book or series with a little more staying power, and decided to give Zombie Goldfish a try. We got it yesterday and he spent the day, off and on, reading. The first book is almost 200 pages, and he LOVES IT! He told me it's his new favorite book. He also said that the author is "really pretty". 😊 The book has some really fun features. The bottom corner has a little flip-book of the fish. There are activities like puzzles, spot the differences, just really fun extras that delight kids. I haven't checked out the content, but... i don't even care! My kid is reading, and over time that will morph into other books and stories. I'm all about just getting our proverbial foot in the door.

My 10, almost 11 year old son is LOVING these books! He's choosing to read on his own and is excited to tell me about it! If your kiddo likes Dogman, Badguys, Trapped in a Video Game, etc. this is a great choice for a non-graphic novel book that really engages kiddos.
