Sound wise, is their a big difference between this and the alexi 600?

Yes; the woods and the construction of the guitars are very different. For example, the 200 is a bolt on neck while the 600 is a neck-thru. The pickup in the 200 is an ESP designed passive pickup, while the 600 sports an EMG HZ passive pickup. Also, the tuners and the floyd roses are different b/t the two. I've own all three to include Japanese made models. Depending on the skill/level of the person this is going to, I'd avoid it.
