These are what pop tarts should be.
While this is for the hot fudge ones, I have tried the blueberry, chocolate, cinnamon and strawberry too.I don't know how I missed out on these as a protein 'bar'. They are amazingly good. Blueberry and hot fudge are the best. Cinnamon next then strawberry then chocolate. The pastry is thick, but the mouth feel and taste are like a pie crust. Yes, they are not actual pie or poptart, I do not like poptarts - but it's like eating a really really good poptart. For protein and lower carb, these are my absolute favorite. I recommend you go to a local store if they have them and try them first to see before getting a box, but they are more expensive in the store. I always have them cold.If you are wondering between these and the brand's pastry rolls - these are better. Well over the rolls.5 stars - just the most excellent protein treat I've ever had.

Way to expensive to be this gross
These are disgusting. I don't know what is worse, the weird strong medicinal taste or the dry and crumbly yet somehow also moist texture. They smell like chemicals. I'm not someone who has to have everything fresh and organic. I'm not talking about preservatives. The smell reminds me of walking into an art studio with the smell of paints/brush cleaners etc. There is almost no filling in these. There is nothing remotely close to the what is shown in the photo. I don't really care about the sprinkles, but they show them covered in sprinkles in the photo and mine has just a few sad lonely little sprinkles. and i checked the wrapper to see if maybe they came loose in transit. empty. But maybe there was a sprinkle shortage or something. I didn't lose hope.I told myself some things smell terrible but taste good... like boiled eggs. Sure they smell like farts, but they taste delicious. So I took my first bite. Out of the corner like the pros on the package did. It was awful. really really awful. Have you ever taken a scoop of whey protein powder and ground up some advil in it and then just poured it all in your mouth dry? I imagine it tastes like one of these.I'm an eternal optimist though. When I see the pile of poo... I look for the pony. So I told myself.. Okay... just get to the filling and it will get better. WHAT FILLING?? There is this tiny thin line of filling that is barely present. I decided to dissect the thing so i could scrape out some filing and taste that and see how it was. It was a weird combo of slimy and gritty.I did something I don't usually do. I just trusted the 4 star ranking of this product and purchased it without reading some of the best and worst reviews (what I usually do). The reason for that is I'd purchased Legendary toaster pastries in the past. They were Strawberry and had a texture very similar to actual pop tarts and they tasted pretty good. They were pricey too (like these) but were great for an occasional treat or just something different. The pastry itself was less cakey (in a good way). The new version of this is really cakey but not in a good way at all.I'm super bummed to see a company that had a great product ditch it in favor of this. I'm hopeful that maybe I got a bad/contaminated batch or something. As another reviewer said, I don't even feel comfortable giving these away because they are that gross.

Eh, just ok
I always find reviews for "protein ______" amusing because everyone somehow expects whatever it is to taste like its less nutrient dense alternative. Pop tarts taste the way they do because of the ingredients used to make them, just like these taste the way they do because of the ingredients used to make them. The pros:- palatable. It doesn't taste like the pop tart from your childhood, but it's also not bad- the texture is actually kind of great. It's similar to a loft house sugar cookie, pillowy and soft.- the first one out of my box came with an adequate amount of frosting. The box was not smashed in transport.- meets expectations as far as being a protein replacement. I'm full. The cons:- definitely rocking that fake sweet taste. If you're used to consuming sugar alternatives (like me), this isn't bothersome. But it does do something to the overall experience of trying to enjoy it- expensive. I got my box for $6.99 and somehow that still feels kinda steep for 4 pastries. I cannot imagine paying more for these.Ending thoughts: I usually pick up breakfast alternatives like these when meal prep burnout strikes and I need something "easy". I don't choose them after through research , I choose them because if I don't have an easy option, I simply won't eat. They don't have nearly enough fiber for me to consider purchasing again and I know I'm going to be hungry in an hour without more fiber content. They're not bad, but I'd only give them a 6/10.
