Why did you pick this product vs others?:Worked just fine, and did what it needed to. It was able to play CDs on my laptop, which is what I needed, and was simple, plug-and-play. As of this review, it is still working so it is currently dependable as well.

Sure, I'll write a review. I plugged it in and it works, first time! Just like it's always been a part of the computer. Nothing to install, no need for additional power outlet, runs off USB. No software included, but for what? Essentially what you have here is your typical laptop-style drive, meaning, you snap the CD\DvD to the spindle and push the drawer in. Watched a DvD movie on it last night, even paused it a couple times, no problems.Update:Okay I had some problems develop a few weeks after use: 1) wouldn't read disc. 2) ejected disc, ejected disc so much I couldn't keep it closed, ejected on boot up, ejected in middle of a movie! 3) started vibrating like it was exceeding its RPM. Then, I turned it over, removed three screws and re-seated the drive in the connector, and closed it back up, and so far it's been quiet and playing nicely.Okay, Love It!! This drive and VLC makes for a great DvD movie player!

I don't believe in the whole 'you get what you pay for' narrative, as that's just marketing jargon designed to get people to accept shoddy workmanship. Even if your item isn't AS good as the one that costs three times more, it should at least perform the task it was designed for to some level of functionality (it is not the consumer's fault what you decided to charge for it, and the pricepoint is no excuse). I also don't leave product reviews when I haven't actually been able to use the product enough for my review to have value (arrived damaged/replacement needed/blah blah is a complaint for customer service, not the subject of a product review).That said, I've had time to use this item in-depth, and I can say it is absolute junk, most likely trying to hide behind aforementioned narrative. I've attempted to burn more than a dozen CDs with this. It fails about 2/3rds of the time for various reasons throughout the burning process, leaving a pile of junk CDs in its wake for every disc it actually manages to burn successfully. I replaced it with an LG, and everything is now working fine, 100% success rate.There is no excuse for this. Save yourself some trouble and look for something with a reliable name behind it.

This is perfect for anyone with old cds with pictures, games or music. My son had no problem plugging it in and getting it to work. Easy and compact. Money well spent on various cds sitting around the house

The DVD player worked great. Just be sure to have it on a flat surface or it will skip. The reason for four stars is bc Amazon will not get off my ass about leaving a review. DVD player: 10/10Amazon: 5/10

I love it! My laptop doesn't have a DVD drive, so I ordered this one. I wanted to see some DVDs I have. It is awesome. Easy to use. I just plugged it into my laptop and it works perfectly. Now I can see my DVDs anytime I want. It comes with a storage bag and can be carried with you without taking up too much room.

It works. It reads my data cds that i burned a bunch of pics on. Just what I needed. Runs a little slow, but it's okay. Be patient with it.

It works properly for CD audio and DVD. I haven't used the feature of burning CDs but I suppose it's working. The material is good and it's easy to carry.
