Inherent problems with Sony PS3 Slims not reading discs.......My PS3 slim decided to give up the ghost and not read any more games discs or DVD's. Decided to dismember the PS3 and investigate, as the warranty had passed (with the help of Youtube!!)Cleaned the laser, but this still did not solve the problem.Decided to purchase a new laser from ConsoleParts4U Ltd.Ordered late Sunday - arrived Tuesday.Fitted the new laser and was not too confident that this would solve the problem. Well, to my amazement, IT WORKED...!!!!!!In fact, it works better than the original laser....no noise or delay.My 4 year old, 8 year old are now very happy....and so am I !!!!!

my 4 year old ps3 slim all of a sudden stopped reading blu ray movies and reading some ps3 games, it would make weird noises and try to eject the disc but it would go back in straight away,i was about to spend 120 quid to have the whole drive replaced but decided to try this as a last resort,and i'm glad i did, the whole process took about 45mins to replace my drive and now my ps3 feels like its brand new,it can read any disc no problem,it was a fairly easy process ,there're a bunch of videos on youtube to show you how,and make sure to order the silverhill 4 pc tool kit as well that will provide the necessary tools to carry out the repair,big thanks to the sellers for this!

my ps3 stopped reading blu rays about a month ago and to be honest i was a bit distraught as the warranty had run out and i was not prepared to pay a high fee for someone else to fix it.therefore i decided to have a go myself, figuring that i had nothing to lose. with the help of youtube instructional videos i managed to replace the lens in about an hour and, dare i say it, even enjoyed the experience, knowing that i fixed it myself.in fact i may boldly add that my ps3 works even better now than it did before with the new lens plus i must have saved myself a fair bit of money.all you need are two different sized philips screwdrivers (cant remember what size but everyone probably has them lying around anyway) and a T8 security bit screwdriverthis is the one i used, cheap too TRIXES T8 Security TORX Screwdriver for Microsoft Xbox 360 Controller Repair Mods & Modding

You will need to remove the bluray player and take lid off it to see the correct laser mechanism number, before ordering. Once you have the model you can be sure to get the right repair kit.Note that the t8 torx needed to get case off has a hollow tip, a solid tip wont do it. I didnt have a hollow tip but got by with a mini flathead across the slots. Just follow the youtube vids and you should be good to go in thirty mins.

Wasn't certain this was going to fix the issue but it did. 99 times out of 100, if you're having ongoing PS3 problems the cause will be either:a) trapped dust and fluff causing it to overheat - in which case you just open up and wipe/blow all the dust out carefully.orb) an issue with the laser and/or laser mechanism. And if cleaning it doesn't fix it then replacing it will.

Best £30 i've ever spent! My playstation3 started to not read game disks! DVD's worked fine and the console was perfectly fine just the blue ray laser. Games would not work, it would make an eject sound and keep trying to read a game disc but to no success.Fitted this bad boy in and it reads games normal again.Quite a fiddly job but it's not too difficult. 30-40mins max for a first timerIf you are not feeling confident about repairing it yourself just man up and do it. It's not difficult at all and there's plenty of videos on youtube to guide you!

Easy to install and saved money on getting a pre built one with the cover etc. It takes about 40 minutes and thats if youre an amteur. Just make sure everything is plugged in properly when you start up as I assumed it hadn't worked but now my blu-rays read well :)

i thought my ps3 was on it's way to the scrapheap, discs were taken up to an hour to read or sometimes not at all then i saw this on here and thought it was worth a try. best £30 i've ever spent, my ps3 loads discs quicker than it did even when it was new. it was so simple to install (even if you suck at technical stuff). if you need a new laser do not hesitate just get it. absolutely brilliant!!!
