Few people like milk as it is. Its raw taste doesn’t suit everyone esp. kids. Just add flavour and see the magic. Full to empty glass in no time else they will just make faces. Kid’s apart, flavoured milk is loved by everyone. Adding flavour to milk is like adding charm to a person. The market is full of flavours. There are just flavours and then flavours with extras. Say to have the chocolate flavour or coffee flavour, just add cocoa or coffee powder to milk. Then there come these flavours with extras. The favs at my home are Complan, Bournvita and Horlicks in order. Each come with their own pros and cons. Here I will talk about Horlicks which goes by the tagline, "Taller, Stronger, Sharper". There’s not much to talk about the nutritional value as every such drink boasts about some, but the real benefit comes from real food, fresh fruits & vegetables, etc. ••••••• PROS ••••••• 1. Rich traditional classic malt flavour. 2. Value for money. It’s comparatively cheaper than Bournvita and Complan. 3. Claimed nutritional benefits can act as a supplement to natural sources. •••••••• CONS •••••••• Only con is the stickiness of powder. It doesn’t dissolve easily and tends to form sticky lumps. Apparently, it dissolves more easily in cold milk, as compared to the warm one. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• SOME VALUES per 100g ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Calories: 376.9kcal Fat: 2g Calcium: 741mg Protein: 11g Iron: 26mg ••••••••••••••••••• REFILL VS JAR ••••••••••••••••••• ▶ Refill packs are better as compared to jars, as refills are cheaper. Get jar version once and then refill it or if you want to use the jar for other purposes get them, as they are of very good quality. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• TIP TO AVOID STICKINESS ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• If using sugar, pre-mix sugar and Horlicks powder and then add milk or water to it. This way it sticks less and fewer lumps are formed. •••••••••••••••••••• FINAL VERDICT •••••••••••••••••••• It’s all about acquiring the taste of this drink. Once you try on and if it suits your taste buds, there’s no turning back. It’s been there on my shelves for more than a decade along with Complan & Bournvita. ▶ So, if you can manage its stickiness and like traditional malt flavour, give it a shot. You will simply enjoy it. Other flavours chocolate, women’s, protein etc ▶ If on the chocolaty side, Bournvita by Cadbury is a nice choice which comes in a similar price range. Be it cold or warm milk, it suits both and tastes equally good. Some crispy chunks are in there, which won’t dissolve in cold milk. In fact, you may like its presence in cold milk. Other variants available 5star, women, gold, lil champs etc. ▶ Then there’s Complan with its unique chocolate or plain milk flavour. Most importantly it dissolves easily to the last particle, be it cold or warm milk. Just that price-wise it’s a bit on the higher side compared to the other two. Other variants available, Kesar badam etc. •••••••••••••••••• PLEASE NOTE •••••••••••••••••• Don’t ever consider these drinks as a replacement for real fruits and vegetables going by brands ads and product covers. Fulfil your nutritional requirements by consuming a fresh and natural source of those. They can never ever replace the goodness of fresh fruits and vegetables.
