This is my second Vaer purchase, the first being a D4 Meridian purchased from the website. Vaer offers a nice variety of watches ranging in price from under $200 (this one) to a little over $1000. Quality and features improve with price, as expected, but all of them are a solid value. All of Vaer’s watches have a sapphire crystal, screw down crown, and at least 10ATM of water resistance. The S3 is well designed and simple. Vaer has gone way back in their offerings, bringing forward some classic watch designs from the past. In this case, the design is based on the A-11 military watch from the 1940’s. Worked then, works now. As an extra bonus, Vaer includes two straps with each watch. With a black strap and a khaki strap, the looks are so different that it's almost like having two watches. And the straps are actually nice! With most watches that I have at this price point, the straps wind up in a drawer and are replaced with something nicer. In the case of Vaer, they’re actually worn. The Vaer S3 competes very well with comparable watches from Citizen / Timex / Seiko / Casio in this price range. In fact, I would challenge anyone to find a watch of another brand with better specs for the price. The fact that Vaer is a U.S. company? Even better. Just be advised – once you get one Vaer, you’re going to want another!

Case finishing is very good, crown is signed Caseback is solid, with VAER name displayed Screwdowm crown gives peace of mind for water resistance Second hand hits the majority of markers but not all - doesn't really bother me and I suspected this may be the case before purchasing. White dial is attractive and the date window for me is a must Includes 2 straps - silicone and a nato style (2 peice also) Both have quick release Silicone strap is very comfy and well made, but attracts a small amount of lint and fluff etc Accuracy seams fine Good value for money I bought this because I wanted an affordable 36mm watch - fits the bill well! Nice packaging also.. Nothing flashy but does the job.

I usually don't take my watch off. I work behind a desk all day, but am remodeling our house on evenings and weekends plus doing all the yard work. On our 34 acres, that means mowing, cutting down dead trees, cleaning up fence rows, you name it. This thing stays on all day and night, regardless of what type of abuse i'm going to put it through. I made my mind up when I bought it (because it's a bit higher priced than I'd normally pay for an everyday watch) that I was going to put it through the same abuse I'd put my old cheap timex watches through. After two months it doesn't look like it's been worn a single day. The screw down crown and the sapphire crystal are worth the bump in price, but it also keeps great time and looks great. I prefer an old canvas strap for daily wear, but also have a few 20mm leather straps I can throw on there if I'm wearing real clothes and leaving the house. I don't like big watches, so finding this in a 36mm case with the specs it has was great. My only complaint is one of personal preference. I wish Vaer would put a domed sapphire crystal on all their watches, or give the buyer the option of domed or flat. I'd prefer a domed crystal, which you can get on some of their models but not one with a black dial, calendar window, and 36mm in size.
