Art Garfunkel - Breakaway [SACD Hybrid Multi-channel]

Great work - Vocalion/Dutton Epoch (and Art)
Wow. What can i say. This was a little bit of a surprise.Prior to listening to this album my knowledge of Art Garfunkel was limited to "Bright Eyes" and his work with Paul Simon, which i'm a big fan of.With the exception of the standard "I only have eyes for you" I had not heard any tracks from this album, so was very pleased to make it all the way through its 37 minutes in one go (This doesnt happen with a lot of 'new' music I listen too). It was a lovely relaxing way to spend some time. Breakaway could easily be popped on and listened to in the background when you don't want big beats interrupting your conversation, or it can be enjoyed as a dedicated listen. If i was to pigeon hole this, it would have to be as an easy listening album. If I was to rate the music alone it would probably be a strong 4 stars, however, the remastering on the 40 year plus album is wonderful. It has both stereo and Quadraphonic mixes, and the Quadraphonic mix is beautifully done. Once I started playing the 4.0 mix I was planted to my chair, its a very nice mix, expansive and surprisingly a little adventurous.Overall I have to give this 5 stars and considering you would have to pay £30 plus for an AP productions Quad sacd in the UK, its an absolute steal at its current price. I shall definitely be purchasing more from this label.

A great SACD find
I've had this album as an LP and CD, so really buying this for a third time should say how much I like this album. I only found this on Amazon, when an Alan Parsons Project 5.1 album was advertised and I looked for other items. To my surprise, Breakaway was there, in Quad, not quite 5.1 but if you're a lover of these surround sound discs, you'll love this. In my opinion, this is Art's best album and so I'm not sure whether to purchase Angel Clare, another in the surround series, as it's not as consistently brilliant as Breakaway. Another point about this disc, is the very reasonable price. Not something you see much of when it comes to surround discs. I won't go through the track listings but there is not a duff track here. The seller, Vocalion, appears to have sole rights to these discs. I only wish that they would expand their collection to more pop and rock albums, as CBS (Columbia) appear to have recorded many early '70's albums in Quad.

Excellent multi channel remix
As a collection of songs I've always found this album a bit 3 star with a few highlights, but as an example of surround sound remixes go its 5 star. Still, I must like this album as I have it on vinyl from the 70s, CD from the 80s and now, all be it for old times sake, SACD over 30 years on. Other 5 channel remixes, notably, Bohemian Rhapsody and Quadrophenia were gimmicky, or sparse on instrumentation respectively, but this remix is warm, full and immersive. If you have a SACD player and are a child of that era its worth buying for the quality and remix alone.

Fantastic album
Hard to believe this album was released 45 years ago! A great selection of songs that create a relaxed vibe- spoiled only by the inclusion of My Little Town duet with Paul Simon which sticks out like a sore thumb. The UK No1 single I Only Have Eyes For You still sounds fantastic. A classic 70s album produced by Richard Perry.

I'm still stunned by this album
I have been an avid fan of multi-channel audio recordings for many years originating from my old quadraphonic vinyl LPs (which I treasure) through to Bluray Audio. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw Angel Clare & Breakaway had been released on SACD by Vocalion - and in quadraphonic! If you have a SACD player and like great music then these two albums are a must purchase. They are simply fantastic. Well done Vocalion but what about Bridge Over Troubled Water and Paul Simon's first two solo albums in SACD quadraphonic? The possibility of more multi-channel music releases has suddenly taken a turn for the better. Thanks again Vocalion.

Higly quality sound at a reasonable price.
An impressive high quality recording. Comparable with much more expensive audophile labels. The four channel recording is well balanced in that you are surrounded by the music but the back two channels are not too loud but present natural studio sound.
