Review: Relatively easy to read and hugely interesting - A great introduction and summary of many of the key western philosophers throughout history. Really enjoyable insights and discussions of their main arguments and beliefs. Review: A must read - I can't thing of a book on contemporary philosophy that has had a more profound impact than Will Durants The story of Philosophy. It's a fascinating read, summing up the ideals of the greats in easily understood language and digestible form. The book itself is nicely sized and well made, what I expect from a massive market paperback. The price is right, no complaints on that front, I do think the cover is a little ugly but hey, never judge a book by it's cover, am I right? Full marks, would recommend.

Nearly As Good As Russell’s History
Alongside Bertrand Russell’s History of Western Philosophy, this is probably the next best book to buy. It is a book I thoroughly enjoy dipping into from time to time, and now that the kindle version is available, it can be read almost any time and anywhere. I should also mention Durant’s other major work: The Story of Civilization. These volumes (11 of them) also contain much philosophy. But unfortunately, most seem still out of print. Even many of the kindle versions aren’t yet available. But if you’re looking for a mix of history and philosophy, these works are admirably readable and a make a great companion to his philosophy. I hope you found my review helpful.

Must read for anyone interested in philosophy
A great introduction to anybody looking for insight into the study of being human. Read this and find the areas of philosophy that interest you most, find a book specialising in that area and boom! You're a philosopher! Impress people at parties! Get shouted at in pubs! Maybe gain an understanding of how we constantly conspire to think our way to conclusions which have no basis in logic and by doing so, improve your own decision making. Decided to buy this? You are already on your way...

A good, brief introduction
A good, brief introduction, all be it somewhat dated. For a more comprehensive (and expensive) survey some will prefer Bertrand Russell.

A good source material for further reading
A book to read and to refer to many times again! A good source material for further reading. I find Will Durant's style of writing fascinating. It is as if you are reading a lively story, drafted in a way that is creative, elegant and easy to follow.
