Essential tool for the job
A stretcher like this is needed if a decent job is to be achieved. This tool was solid with a comfortable handle but I modified it very marginally by chamfering the leading edge of the peg so that it slid into the loop more easily.

Does a good job
Webbing stretchers improve with use,(as does competence of handler!) so I’m sure this will slip less with age and my experience.The chain which the dowel is attached to is far too flimsy, but the stretcher is fine and I have achieved good results.
