A very good toilet seat
I am very pleased with this seat - it looks good, is comfortable, and was very easily fitted (contrary to some of the reviewers I found the instructions easy to follow, and the whole process very simple). There is the very slightest “wobble”, but this is due to the attachment-detachment mechanism (which is very good, btw, and certainly makes cleaning easier), but the seat doesn’t feel unstable. The closure speed is okay - although I’m sure over time it’ll need tightening.

Much better than I could find in Homebase or B&Q
For years now I've found the quality of wooden loo seats from Homebase etc to be very poor. The hinge design on most is such that it is guaranteed to come loose, after which the seat moves about, the plastic feet press in the wrong places and either break up or fall off, and eventually the hinge itself falls apart. The wooden seats are also usually very light and sometimes crack (which by the way can be quite painful!).I recently had to replace one that had cracked, bought a replacement in Homebase, fitted it carefully - tightening everything very firmly - only to have the hinge come loose and fall apart 24 hours later. I went back to see if they had anything that looked better (in Mahogony to match other fittings in the bathroom) but they didn't. In desperation, while still standing in the loo-seat aisle in Homebase, I used my phone to see if anyone online sells better ones and found this on Amazon. The reviews were good so I thought I'd give it a try.So, overall it definitely is a cut above the others. In particular the seat and lid are made of much heavier wood (or more of it anyway) than the others. Everytime I lift it I'm taken by surprise at its weight. It's not a problem - quite the contrary it immediately gives an impression of superior quality. The little feet, which on many seats are hollow and made of slippery plastic, are on this made of some sort of solid rubbery material, which help glue the seat to the rim of the bowl so that it doesn't slide around in use. Being solid, I think they're unlikely to break up or fall off. Also there are five of them and they all happen to sit well around the rim.The hinge design is unfortunately no better than the others. Anyone with a feel for mechanical things - or who like me spent their childhood playing with Meccano - can immediately see the problem with this design. However, I think because the seat doesn't want to move around, the hinges have so far (about 10 days) remain tight and secure. Nevertheless, I've knocked one star off because of this. The better designs have a bar across between the hinges, which gives them much greater stability. How much can one say about a loo seat? It looks and works better than the others and is only about £4.00 more - worth every penny!

1 star ---AVOID---
I recommend that you scroll past this toilet seat as the poor quality of the fixings is inexcusable. The wooden seat and lid are good quality and easy on the eye, however, the connecting bar which joins the seat structure to the flexi-fix posts has female plastic receptors which lock onto the posts and fail in very short order. This renders the whole seat useless as the seat cannot be retained on the posts. 7 months from installation to throwing a perfectly good seat with inadequate fixings into the recycling bin. -----AVOID-----

Worth the money
I wanted a solid oak toilet seat as I don't like cold or plastic toilet seats and I wanted it to never move. I've bought many cheaper seats before, but it always ended up being false economy. This one cost more than double than any other toilet seat I've had and I'm thinking of getting another for the downstairs toilet. It is well finished, no rough edges or any splinters, looks posh, was easy to fix and the feet on the underside that sit on the bowl are sturdy ones compared to the cheap hollow plastic junk that most others seem to use. I fitted it without taking the protective bit off the sticky pads as I figured I could stick it down later if it ever moved, it hasn't moved a millimetre in months. The whole hinge at the back is definitely part of the solid feel of the seat, it is metal, not plastic, and the chrome finish fits well with the overall design. I'm not a fan of the soft close idea, but for what it's worth, now that I have it I use it and that works well too. If there was a version without soft close for a few quid less I'd have opted for it. Cleaning is quick, press the button, release it, pull the seat up and the whole seat and hinge bar is out of the way, genius. I have a friend that is a handyman and he loves fitting these because he never gets a callback for a moving seat. Saved on my wishlist for the future and to easily find it to send a link to anyone that needs a recommendation.
