Very Entertaining!
My boyfriend actually watches his YouTube Channel and bought his book recently, I’ve seen a couple of videos but wasn’t an avid watcher like my him.I do love reading, though, so I picked up his book and in between buying it myself on Audible and listening on my drives to and from work, and switching to the physical book when I could, I found it extremely entertaining.Very easy to follow, as well! Even though I mostly listened to the book, I found it very easy to recognize the names and cities he mentioned in the physical book as well, it’s very well written, sarcastic and witty. Highly recommend! Will be binge watching his YouTube channel now!

Hilarious like his videos
I'm addicted to Chris Broad's You tube videos! They are hilarious, esp the ones with Natsuki....so had to get his book. Great narration. Could listen to your accent all day!

Journey Through the Lens: A Review of Abroad in Japan by Chris Broad
In "Abroad in Japan," Chris Broad unveils a narrative that embarks from his initial days as a language teacher in Japan to the serendipitous inception of his YouTube channel. The book is strewn with a gamut of anecdotal stories likely to resonate with, and perhaps charm, the habitual viewers of his digital content. Broad’s storytelling oscillates between immersing the reader in the quintessential Japanese milieu and dragging them through it - a dichotomy that might mirror the gamut of emotions one might traverse in foreign lands. There's a candid moment in the book, a behind-the-scenes glimpse, where Broad shares the inception of a video borne out of an unnerving situation involving a North Korean missile alert. With just an iPhone in hand, he records his spontaneous reaction to the air-raid siren blaring at the crack of dawn, capturing a moment that could have veered into oblivion, yet instead, it found a place in the annals of his YouTube journey. This excerpt encapsulates a raw essence of unpredictability, a trait ubiquitous in Broad's YouTube chronicles. The book, however, teeters on the precipice of verbosity. There's an argument to be made for a tighter narrative that could have not only accentuated the focal points but also made for a breezier read. Despite its shortcomings, "Abroad in Japan" provides a holistic view of Broad's journey, intertwined with whimsical and sometimes harrowing anecdotes that bring out the essence of his experiences in the Land of the Rising Sun. It's a ride that's sometimes smooth, at times bumpy, but undeniably real.

As a follower over the past 5 years, I had to get this
This book is like the the channel: funny, interesting, and above all, entertaining. I like that it fills in some of the gaps of Chris's time in Japan and his backstory while still being anchored in time by what videos he was producing. I had a laugh about the complainers who b!tch that Chris is being offensive to Japanese people. Some people just really need to get a life! Otherwise, I found myself relating a lot to Chris's experiences because I also moved abroad at around the same time that he did (we're about a year apart in age as well) to a country (Slovenia) where I didn't know the language at all. However, my experience has been way easier given that I already knew some people there, I'm half-Slovenian (my name is basically the Slovenian equivalent of 'Jane Smith'), and most of the population is fluent in English. Bottom line: my time abroad has been filled with way less excitement than Chris's, and I feel a bit like I'm living vicariously through his videos. Looking forward to many more (Youtube) adventures!

Anecdotal Adventures
Chris Broad first crossed my path as I browsed around YouTube, and after watching his rather good videos about his life and adventures in Japan, I was a fan. Once he announced this book's release I was excited to see if his video storytelling would translate well into a novel. It did! His biting British wit, collides with his openness to experience genuine emotions in his journey through life in Japan. If you're a fan of Japan itself or Chris himself, go ahead and read this book. It was truly a pleasure to read!

An excellent book for those curious about another culture.
A very entertaining and easily readable book that does not leave out the downsides of moving to and living in Japan. Chris Broad's writing style does not try to reinvent the wheel or talk down to the reader and the result is a comfortable book that you don't want to put down until you have completed the last page and there is no more book to read.

Way Beyond Expectations
Starting as something I picked up to support my favorite youtuber, I found myself hard pressed to put this book down. Captivating, hilarious, and incredibly moving, I found myself with tears in my eyes when it came time to reading the epilogue. Through the years of watching Chris’ videos, I feel like I’ve picked up a good sense of his life story, but hearing it described in great detail, almost as if the man himself was sitting down next to me, was an experience in itself. From a youtube screen and behind intense editing, it’s hard to really know if what you’re seeing is real, but this proved to me that Chris is really the Chris Broad of Abroad in Japan. Brutally honest, sharing every bit of his time in Japan from the embarrassing to the sad, and sarcastic as ever, Chris Broad’s book really shows that he IS the world’s most affable man. Thank you Chris!

Fangirling
As an avid Abroad in Japan subscriber since the first Journey Across Japan, I loved reading about Chris’s early years as an English teacher in Japan, and how his YouTube channel really got started. Although I’ve seen all the videos, including the one with Ken Watanabe, reading his descriptions is a lot of fun. The only drawback: the Kindle version doesn’t have his photos. For the physical book, this would doubtless be a five-star review.

A fun and entertaining read
Even if you’ve watched all Chris’s YouTube videos , you’ll still enjoy this book. A great picture into moving to Japan and the funny and touching things that happened along the way. Chris is a good storyteller, and the book gives you a real insight into the risks and chances he took to push himself to become more outgoing, adventurous, and up his YouTube skills until he saw the success he currently has. Good job Chris! I’ve enjoyed your videos from the beginning.

Great read
If you're thinking of going to Japan or have been before, this book is for you. Interesting, witty, well observed and well written. Made me laugh a few times, and made me want to visit Japan again nearly every chapter

Adorei o livro e recomendo. O livro estava direito, mas o pacote da encomenda chegou-me a casa com o papel exterior aberto num dos cantos, alguém abriu para ver o que tinha dentro.
