Quality product from a reputable manufacturer
***APPLICATION***Wanted to use my Lenovo W530 laptop with my HP MX70 CRT. My gear is vintage and so am I.***LIKES***StarTech is a great company - they build quality product that works well and they also have great support. I’ve bought a lot of their products and used their support once to deal with a technical issue - which they handled quickly and effectively. This product is a good representation of what they put out: it is well-designed and engineered, and manufactured to high standards. It’s certainly a practical design, and yet it’s much classier as compared to all the competitors I’ve seen. There was no interference or distortion in the image from the laptop - it was nice and crisp. While gaming there was no significant lag as is often a concern with these VGA interfaces.***DISLIKES***I will not take off a star for this, but you oftentimes will pay more - sometimes a LOT more - for their product versus a competitor’s product. The reason I won’t take off a star is all the reasons stated in my likes! 😎***TO BUY OR NOT TO BUY?***Do you need an HDMI to VGA interface? Do you want to buy a quality product from a reputable manufacturer? Then heck yes, BUY IT!

Works For 110KHz CRT Monitor
I have a ViewSonic G220fb CRT, which can get up to 110KHz, and this adapter supports this frequency perfectly.I am now running this monitor at 1920 * 1440 @ 73Hz, and it is great. Hopefully I can get a card that supports interlacing soon, so I'll update this review if I can get that working. As it is now, this adapter should be good to go for PC CRT use up to this frequency, at least.Edit: It seems to be able to do up to about 289 MHz for the dot clock before it gets some weird artifacting. It can do a teensy bit more but I wouldn't advise it.Edit 2: A rev 2 was apparently released, with a slightly improved clock of 297 MHz, so that's nice. I do wish There was one out there which could reach up a bit higher, but this is the best I know of.

Good option for a CRT monitor for devices without DisplayPort output, but not perfect
This is a pretty good VGA adapter, however it is not capable of doing higher bandwidth than 1600x1200@60Hz or 1920x1080@60Hz. It works quite well for my RetroTink 2x and PS3 at 1080p, but if plan on using it with a computer I strongly recommend getting the StarTech DP2VGAHD20 as it can do significantly higher bandwidths and produces a cleaner picture. This also does not work directly with the PS4 as it doesn't output enough voltage to the HDMI port, however I fixed this quite easily by simply using a powered HDMI splitter. A powered switch or anything else that passes through the signal with its own power supply should also work fine.Pros:- Switches resolutions quickly with no distortion- No major noise in the image- Doesn't cut out while using it, even with low power devices like the RetroTink 2x- "Zero" lag, duck hunt can be played- Working at the following resolutions:- 1600x1200@60Hz- 1200x900@100Hz- 1024x768@115HzCons:- Some resolutions are blurrier than my native output- Gets a bit funky and cuts out sometimes when switching- Non-powered so doesn't work with devices like the PS4 that don't provide much power to the 5V pins- Not working resolutions: (all of which are compatible with a GPU with VGA out)- 1920x1440@60Hz- 1600x1200@75Hz- 512x480@60Hz (Good for SNES emulation)

Worked great right out of the box
I have a Dell Inspiron 14z laptop with a 19" Dell monitor. The monitor has only a VGA connection, the laptop doesn't. I had originally bought a VGA to mini display port adapter which worked great until the port (on the pc) somehow got damaged and would not accept the adapter. So, deciding to connect to the pc's HDMI port I bought the Etekcity 1080P adapter which seemed from the description to be made for the purpose and (maybe this should have been a warning sign!) was quite inexpensive.Anyway to make a long story short, it fit fine, but nothing I tried would get it to work. I returned it to Amazon (great customer service!) and ordered the "StarTech.com HD2VGAE2 HDMI to VGA Converter" which arrived in two days(I highly recommend Prime), plugged right in, and worked like a champ form the get-go.As a side light, before ordering from Amazon I had gone with my problem to the local Best Buy and Radio Shack stores, hoping for a quick fix adapter and was told in both cases that no such thing existed or that if it did it would be 'very expensive.'

Works Exactly As I Expected
This device, when plugged into my HP Pavilion Notebook, does exactly what I wanted it to do: output VGA to the VGA-to-Composite/S-Video convertor I have been using for years and so onwards to my defiantly non-HDMI TV set.And I needed the Audio output: the Pavilion shuts off its own headphone output (as well as its own speakers) when the HDMI cable is inserted.I did try it with a Roku 3, but the screen kept freezing during activation (which never completed), even when I used a 2.1A 5V USB charger to power the device. Perhaps that particular Roku 3 was defective.Note that the bulk of the advertising stresses attaching this to a computer, not a TV device. And, with a computer, it works very well indeed.

item fell apart
I purchased the item to take on the road with me when traveling for work in case I needed an adapter for my presentation. Upon opening the package, the item fell apart--the plastic plate that holds the inside piece inside, fell out. since I needed the item, I tried to snap the plastic piece back in place and attach the adapter. Unfortunately, it did not work. Luckily, an associate had an adapter that I could borrow. My poor planning to purchase the item and not use it soon enough; now I am unable to return the item. It has never been used because it fell apart. I think this is poor workmanship and would like the company to stand behind the product.
