It’s so pretty, but the most important part - the rice is a revelation!!!! I’ve always cooked rice by absorption method, same as this pot, but wow, it tastes so different! We eat way more rice now, because it’s just so good. The whole house smells aromatic, just from plain rice. I reduced the amount of water recommended though, as we like our grains to be cooked through, but still separate easily!!!! I haven’t tried other meals yet, it’s on the to-try list :)

Rice cooked with this donabe came up perfect each time. Fluffy and chewy, each grain is well separated. I tried cooking one-pot meals with it. Perfect results each time. Using the rice cooked by this donabe for fried rice is fantastic, too. Highly recommended.

I am part Japanese and have eaten rice almost daily my entire life. I have a high-end Zojirushi that i use almost daily. We are empty-nesters now, and I wanted to up my cooking game, so I purchased this. It came well-packed with no damage. The break-in process is a little bit of a pain. I’m trying to keep the glazed part dry prior to using it, which is also a little bit of a pain. Build quality seems good, but this clay earthenware is so it’s relatively delicate and needs to be handled with care or will chip. The sheer mass is impressive, and I think that’s a big reason it cooks rice so well. However, the actual cooking process is pretty easy, and the rice you get out of it is insanely good. Granted, I’m using high-quality rice, but this blows away anything I’ve made with my Zojirushi. The rice was fluffier. Each grain was more evenly cooked. Even the flavor was better. I am ruined; the bar has been raised on what great rice can taste like if cooked with the right tool.
