My kids loved this whole series and the upper grades as well
My kids loved this whole series and the upper grades as well. They insisted I keep them when they were done learning from them. Now what curriculum is like that?! One went into nursing and the other into engineering and not only excelled in their science classes, but truly loved science. I attribute that love to Jay Wile and his team of authors such as Jeannie Fulbright.

My son LOVES this book! Buy it with the Audio cd-rom if you have a child that struggles with reading.
I love this book! I think most of my love for it is that I bought it along with the Audio cd-rom (provided in separate listing) and the two make the perfect combinations. This book has beautiful brightly-colored pictures. The text has a very friendly layout and the text is so unlike a textbook. The way the information is presented makes the information come alive. My son LOVES this book and looks forward to reading (and listening) to it.I love that this book emphasizes the mystery of faith with the truth of science in a very non-threatening non-creationist way.The mystery is laid out in such a way that it prompts wonderful discussion with my child about how it's just fine to not know all the answers and to enjoy the facts that we know for sure.Thank you, Jeannie Fulbright, for such a fantastic and well-written book.I will be buying the books in the rest of this series because of how terrific this book is.

Great book so far
I really wanted to purchase a book that for was affordable and so happy I found this used book! I looked through it and the book looks amazing and we are looking forward to using it for homeschool. It was important to me to find something that was written from a creation perspective. So grateful I bought this and the book is is in excellent condition too!

Best science curriculum for homeschool families!
Apologia science is by far the best curriculum for homeschool families! It can appeal to younger and older students. I love how this curriculum actually is based on the Bible and Biblical truths. No evolution and the info is deep enough but not over small children's head. Keeps their interest with the amazing pictures and content, but is not hard to teach or explain. My children have truly enjoyed science and love doing the jr. Journals along with them. I gave tried other curriculum, but nothing compares.

awesome!!!
I don't know how they do it but here is another book in this series that manages to illicit wonder even in adults who thought they knew about the topic! Wonderful conversational style, great project ideas that are natural not so schoolish that they are unrealistic or tedious for families. A treasure that my kids enjoy reading for fun with me-and so worth the text book price! LOVE this series!!!!!!

Saved money
Decided to buy a used copy to save money. This was in very good condition, just as the seller said. The only thing I didn't realize is that that this was an older printing so some of the words were slightly different than the newest printing. However the differences were very minor and won't affect the compatibility with the corresponding notebooks (the page numbers are the same in this printing and the newest one).

It was great at first...
This is a great science program and it covers it in great detail. My kids were very interested in all they were learning about. The lessons and activities really engaged them and helped reinforce what they were learning. The only problem was that about halfway through the book, they started losing interest a little. I think they just kept getting so tired about learning about birds. Elementary aged kids are so curious about so many things in the world, so why limit them to one topic for an entire year?We liked the idea at first, but it got to be too much. If maybe they spent a month on one topic and moved into something else, that would work better. We still have yet to find a good science program. For now, books from the library, and our own backyard have become our science.

Can't say enough good things about this book
Can't say enough good things about this book. Beautifully written, beautifully illustrated, wonderful interactive activities for the student. I would highly recommend. I have never wanted to look for any other science series for my student. We have worked through 3 in the series now and we hope to study them all. Absolutely LOVE them all.

Recommended as well for home reference books
Since I couldn't find encyclopedias that weren't saturated with the evolution theory, I decided to go with Apologia textbooks for reference. I wasn't sure how it would work out - having never owned any of their materials before now - although I have been familiar with Apologia for years and have been a subscriber to their emails for as long as I can remember. It was a good decision and I'm very happy! Yes these books can be used for reference as well as for textbook use. Very thorough and complete, these are excellent quality hardback and a good size for both classroom and home. Can be used with or without the accompanying notebook. I very highly recommend.

Sincere yet biased text.
This is part of a series on science by Fulbright that includes astronomy and general science. The pictures are good and the style is conversational. It is probably very well meant and sincere but cannot escape using a one sided opinion throughout. It takes a young earth account and does not include a balanced argument. Some examples "What is one reason the dinosaurs may have become extinct?" " They probably died out because of changes to the earth that were caused by the worldwide Flood." page 231 and page 17."Some scientists think that the dragons in the Bible and in certain legends were actually pterosaurs that people saw with their own eyes" Pg 122"Some people living in Africa today report seeing two pterosaur like creatures" pg 123Page 126. "It is often believed that pterodactyls were fish eaters because their fossils are found near fossils of sea creatures. These animals, however, were likely buried during the worldwide flood of Noah's day. During that flood, sea life and other creatures probably mixed together as the ocean tides swept over the land. Because of this , we really do not know what these flying reptiles ate, though it could have fish." It is presented like a science book yet rejects science at various opportunities with sub headings like 'Creation confirmation' and 'Extinction errors'. The tone is persistent and it is concerning that someone who accepts this idea may walk into a museum and wander around the geology section and get a shock, that or look at a fossil for a few moments. It seems a little unfair to both Christianity and Science that this book reflects a science or faith perspective.
