Are these really durable? Is the stink really that horrible?

I didn't notice any odor. Great tool bags. But I use them for my fishing gear. They work great. I would recommend them for any storage needs.

Will it fit jumper cables?

Probably not. I have phone chargers and cables that fit in the bags, but I think jumper cables may be too large.

Why aren't they truly strong and heavy duty?

The zippers are cheap and fabric is thin, if you want something for really light tools it will work fine they are a good value for price but they are not able to hold up to the weight nor the friction caused by transport that I use them for. With that said I am not unhappy with product just had to find other uses than what I bought them for and they are handy most are being used to store fishing equipment now.
