I'd never seen one of these aqua doodle mats before - I don't recall them being around 10 years ago when my son's children were very young. But I'm so glad I saw it for my daughter's 5 year old and 2 year old. My youngest granddaughter was two a few days before I bought it, and she'd already had her presents - so this was a 'just because' present for her to share with her brother. And what a boon it is. I don't know who enjoyed it more... the 2 year old, or her grandma.When the mat arrived I was expecting a larger, heavier box, and was surprised by how small the lightweight mat was - folded within its attractive colourful box. It truly is a magic mat. I had read that the back of the mat was made from a water resistant material that draws water from the surface, but I was sceptical that it truly would not wet the floors.The mat is plenty big enough for two children to doodle simultaneously, but the actual white drawing area is not as big as I thought it would be. I'd have liked to see less border and more space to draw. The mat is basically 3 layers of material, each with different properties. When the water filled pens, and the brush, touch the surface material of the mat (making it wet) the three colours of the material in the middle show through - pink, blue and yellow. Children cannot choose a colour to draw - if they draw from top to bottom the picture will be tricoloured. The water-resistant nylon material on the bottom prevents the water going through to soak carpets and floors.Though not very obvious, outlines of the full alphabet (capitals and small letters) are printed all around the inside edge of the drawing area. Older children can colour these in whilst learning to sound the letters. I would have like the small 'a' to be a proper rounded 'a', but that's a minor niggle. I very much like that the pens do not have tops, which could be a choking hazard for very young children. There are 3 loops at one end of the mat, presumably to hold the pens prior to rolling it up. The six foam geometric shapes are quite nice for teaching/learning purposes, but I'm not keen on the two animal shapes. This is a super mat that can be used anywhere, and can be taken to the homes of family or friends to keep kids occupied, whilst not damaging anyone's property. I love it.

The box is very exciting and the mat it lovely and large, but when we went to use it and fill up the pens, none of the lids would come off the pens. This left some very disappointed faces. The mat itself worked okay when we put some water on it, but the fact you cant use the pens which actually come with it and are designed for the mat means that the effects don't work as well as I would hope they would.***UPDATE*** I left this with my son to play with and he came in to me with the pen open - they turn the opposite way to usual so try this before giving up like we did! When we used the pens on the mat, they worked well as they are supposed to and my son has been happily playing with this ever since we filled up the pens.

This mat is absolutely amazing. I bought this because my 1 yr old just always wants to have a pen in his hand and just wants to draw everywhere including walls and sofas. So this mat is basically to stop him drawing everywhere in the house. It’s great because all you need is water and even if he does try to write or draw on the wall or sofa nothing will happen. He can scribble away on the mat. The mat itself is great, just wish it was a little bigger also wish the pens were also a little more bigger to get more water in, have to keep refilling several times. Other than this it’s great. The little accessories that come with it are good as a learning curve too so they work out what shapes they are drawing. So I would recommend this to any parent.

This is a really fun to play with. It's like the magic paint colour books from years ago, but reusable. It comes with several markers that you just add water to for drawing. To clean it, just let it dry! You can even have your child 'finger paint' on it by just using water. It saves on so much mess, and is so easy to clean!The colour is on the mat, so it doesn't matter what colour you use, it will always come out in a rainbow (as in product pics). It's well made and seems kid durable. It has waterproof backing, which is great in case your child spills water that they are 'painting' with. It's also seen around the edge, giving it a nice soft finish. On the ends are some loops for hanging it to dry.

I got this for my two daughters for their Christmas present as I was sick and tired of them graffiti the living room walls.It came with two pens and a brush which you fill with water and a few accessories such as stencils and a how to draw booklet.Very easy to maintain with next to no mess. You let it dry then the kids can draw again (my eldest daughter uses a hairdryer to speed up the process).As long as the kids aren't drawing on the walls, I am very happy with this product.

The pen lids did not have air holes. A silly thing to notice but as it was given as a gift to a toddler, one of the first things she did was to put the pen lid in her mouth. Luckily fully supervised so the lid didnt reach the mouth before it was removed from her fingers. It states british made on the box but not complying with health & safety.Other than that, it worked well & was a well enjoyed toy. Packs small so easily transported.

Delivered well packed and on time and good quality. Our three year old grand daughter loved playing with it straight away and spent ages entertaining herself. It makes no mess and the water filled pens are easy to use and the mat dries quickly. Comes supplied with two magic pens, one magic brush and a selection of multicoloured shapes to draw around. This toy helps to develop drawing and writing skills at the same time giving hours of fun. A very reasonable price and I shall be sending for another as they make good presents at this price.

This is a great child’s play / drawing mat. It’s a good size, and it works as it is described very well, my 2 year old granddaughter loves it. And it cleans and drys very quickly, l highly recommend it.
