It is definitely not waterproof. There is no gasket on the lid. The lid snaps firmly in place to contain the lid's contents but will not be very protective outdoors in rough weather. There is a front panel that snaps into place but it too would not do a lot to keep out blowing rain. All that being said, I have found it very useful for keeping my small tools that I use for electronics (in the top) and for storing many small electronics parts (in the trays below the lid).
