Silit Glass Lid with Metal Handle, Transparent, 28 cm

What a brilliant pan lid this is! Unique too. Trust Silit (a German company) to analyse the subject and design the perfect solution - in this case, a design that nobody else is making. Glass pan lids are common, invariably fairly flat, made of thin glass and have a metal rim which collects liquid. It's hard to clean, harbours germs and can sometimes corrode. In a clever move, Silit have done away with the metal rim altogether. They manage this by moulding the lid from thick, heavy duty glass in the same manner as a Pyrex dish is produced. The lid is also designed with a pronounced dome shape which channels any condensed steam back down and directly into the pan so reducing the chances of burnt food. It's a genius solution, and the sort of thing that's obviously the best way to do things when you see it working. I'm now replacing all my metal rimmed glass lids with these. Pans are all made to standard diameter sizes nowadays so they fit any brand of pan. You may notice there's no little metal steam hole in the top but Silit have taken care of that in very elegant manner too! Three very small protruding ridges are placed under the rim. They do two things - ensure the lid sits with total stability and zero wobble, and allow an even, very diffuse venting of steam before any pressure build up. So, no lid clatter either. You can buy these in a range of sizes to suit, and with a choice of black plastic nob or this stainless version. I have both, but the metal knob version has an added advantage of being oven safe. It might seem odd and a little nerdy for me to get all excited about a mere pan lid, but great design is great design, wherever you find it. A lot of thought has gone into these, and they set the standard of how all lids should be. Manufactured in Germany, high quality and great value for money. Very highly recommended.

Not as great as I thought. The lid knob is not water proof. It has several air holes and soap get stuck in there. So you need to hold under the tap to get the soap off for a lengthy period and waste water. I have many silit sauce pans I have bought in Germany. They have the name in the item itself. Although this comes in a Silit box. When you open it the lid does not have it anywhere. So not event sure if it is Silit.

Dieser Silit Glas-Deckel (schwerer!) erfreut uns mittlerweile seit gut 5 Jahren. Noch heute ist er in einem einwandfreien Zustand und sieht noch heute aus wie neu (ja, er wird benutzt :-)). Kein erhitzen des verchromten Griffs, egal wie lange gekocht wird. Zudem super im Geschirrspüler zu reinigen ohne Rost-Ansätze. Es könnte jedoch mal sein, dass sich unter dem Griff etwas Wasser sammelt, welches aber problemlos zu entfernen ist (leichtes bewegen oder schütteln hilft!). Nach einem längeren Zeitraum empfehle ich den Griff einmal komplett abzuschreiben/auseinanderzubauen um ihn gründlich zu reinigen (merken wie zusammengesetzt war). Preis-Leistung für mich Spitze und würde jederzeit diesen Deckel wieder kaufen. Klare Kaufempfehlung :-)

Bisher bin ich voll zu frieden mit dem Deckel. Der Knauf wird zwar heiß beim extrem Temperaturen aber damit kann ich Leben und es Dampft an den Seiten heraus. Er ist aber sehr Robust an geschraubt am Deckel., den man selber an schrauben kann. Ich hoffe das es so bleibt.

Silit Topfdeckel ist sehr gut.
