As a practicing pediatrician I was looking for an inexpensive ophthalmoscope to check red reflexes on newborns when rounding in the nursery and thought I would try this for $30. In a fairly dark space it does an OK job at showing a red reflex. The light is not very intense and brightness is not adjustable. When I give 3 stars it is for its ability to be used for that one function.If you are looking for a functional ophthalmoscope to do a decent fundoscopic exam, this is not the correct tool for you. The focus dial is very hard to move, and as I state you can't adjust the brightness of the light.The otoscope part is OK and price is good for a usable otoscope.

Really most of this product was pretty good for home use, except for the most important thing, the light sucks. So it doesn't really matter that you could actually use the pieces, if you can't see once you are in the ear it is useless.

I bought this for my nursing school classes and the items arrived on time. The color is nice and the tools are fairly sturdy. My biggest issue is that the light source in the otoscope attachment keeps blinking. The ophthalmoscope works just fine with a nice steady shine. I tried switching out the batteries and the otoscope light still keeps blinking rapidly. I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to make it stope blinking. The only thing I can think of is that it's a manufacturing defect. This aspect was very disappointing. Otherwise, decent product for a decent price.

The otoscope works great, no problems.The ophthalmoscope is variable. For some reason, it is very positional. I have to angle it perfectly in order to get a red reflex. If you don't angle it just right, the pupil remains black. When angled perfectly, I have been able to visualize retinal vessels. However, I have not been able to visualize the optic disc. Obviously, expensive brands are going to provide better and consistent visualization.Overall, I am happy with my purchase. It was cheap and allowed me to practice health assessments.

As an FNP student, I could not afford an expensive set (>$500). This set is high quality and perfect for home use and practicing on family members. Valuable tool for clinicals.

I could barely see anything with this otoscope/ophthalmoscope tool. The grade is not HIGH, but very low. It got me through my Health Assessment by faking what I saw. If you really need something to learn from, this will not suffice.

I am partial to purple and didn't want a boring old otoscope. This fits the bill nicely and is very functional.

The only thing I didn't like is that it doesn't come with batteries.
