Effective & Reliable
I use this docking station under Windows 10 to archive video, music and data files to offline removable disks. While the first model I ordered had a defective switch and required exchange, the replacement has worked as expected for the last three months.Chose this model for the two separate power/status switches which is a feature not available on most docking stations. Based on archiving needs (and the capacity of USB-3), it can be useful not to activate both drive slots at the same time.Chose StarTech as I have owned the 4-disk model for several years with good experience and trust the brand more than many other makes.Chose USB-3 interface to replace a previous eSATA model due to increasing difficulty of getting driver support for my computer's eSATA interfaces. USB-3 interface currently works better for running multiple drives that require removing-at-will in a docking station than most current eSATA options.

Works on Linux
I bought this device for use under Linux as an enclosure that I could use to support 2 5TB Seagate Barracuda drives in a software RAID array. For the record, it works. I an average of about 100MB/s read rate to the RAID 1 array composed of those two devices from my Thinkpad P50 over USB 3. It's listed as a "uas" device under lsusb. It has only been a few days so I can't vouch for its long-terrm stability, though.

Somewhat happy
This dock is exactly what I was looking for. It is very convenient having the ability to have two additional drives connected. I use this for docking drives that have large video files on them. Overall I am somewhat pleased with this setup. One huge negative is that the drives spin down or go to sleep far too quickly. Once that happens it takes longer than expected before I can read or write from the drives. I contacted StarTech. Almost a month later, they responded that there was no adjustment for that setting.

Well worth the money.
I have been using Startech hardware and cables for years. Always found them to be reliable. Sometimes a bit more expensive but well worth it. I suffered some kind of power surge in the motherboard of one of my computers. Fried the sata II connectors and two of my hard disks. Had to pull the rest of the drives outside the case and was short e-sata ports. Very happy with the performance of this device. Have not yet used the back up feature as I have not yet recovered my lost data. One great feature is the eject button instead of just pulling the drives out. No fear of damaging connectors on drives. Not sure about other docking stations, but you can turn the drives on after the computer is on and dismount the drives while computer is running. Hot swappable basically. Again, totally happy with purchase.

Worked well with 8 TB drives
It's a bit expensive but so far it has worked flawlessly. I'm using 8 TB drives and there have been no problems.with earlier USB hard drive docking stations I ran into problems where the disks were corrupted when the size crossed certain boundaries, like using a 3 TB disk caused filesystem corruption.this might have the same problem when we hit the next USB/SCSI boundary jump, but so far it has worked reliably for me.I haven't performed any performance measurements, but accessing two drives at the same time did not create any obvious problems ...

Works as advertised
I had some hard drives I had removed from computers for various reasons. I needed to determine their status (good or bad). I was able to do that easily with this unit. Some of the drives had been removed from old computers. I could reformat the drives, removing the old operating systems. Basically, this did what I needed. Thanks StarTech.
