The most warm and thickest Carhartt socks for Cold Weather.
These did not work out for my needs being too thick. I went with the next grade down for Carhartt Cold Weather socks instead. Carhartt Men's Extremes Cold Weather Boot Socks, Navy, 10-13 Sock/6-12 Shoe They were not as thick and worked better for my feet in my boots. I don't live in an extreme cold weather area, but it does get cold and sometimes very cold. But, these Carhartt Men's Arctic Wool Cold Weather Socks would work great for someone that needs great warmth. The Carhartt name alone means quality and perfromance. They are 85% Wool, 6% Nylon, 4% Polyester, 1% Lycra and 4% Other Fibers. These are socks that those in bad weather wear on fishing boats and in snow and arctic conditions. Just make sure you have room in your boots for thick or winter socks. 1/2 size larger at least is what you should be wearing to offset the additional thickness in your boots. Otherwise, you get that tight bulging feet that begin to hurt due to tightness of what you are wearing, lack of ability to wick moisture and the air pocket of warmth created. You get everything pressed against your feet, your feet lose circulation and the cold just burns right through onto your feet and your feet feels it and gets ice cold fast despite what you are wearing on them. Make sure your boots can accommodate thicker socks. If not, get a pair of winter boots 1/2 size larger for the winter or cold weather when you need them. You can still wear those 1/2 size larger boots in the summer with thick hiking socks that breath and wick moisture. The thickness of these socks are thick, but they are very comfortable. I went with the Extremes one since they were not as thick. They are 70% Acrylic, 15% Wool, 13% Nylon and 1% Lycra. If you need an even thinner pair of Winter wool socks, you can try the Carhartt Triple Blend Cold Weather socks. Carhartt Men's Triple Blend Thermal Boot Socks, HeatherGrey, 10-13 Sock/6-12 Shoe They are thinner in construction and are sleeker than the Extremes ones. The Triple Blend ones are 43% Acrylic, 21% Polyester, 19% Wool, 16% Nylon and 1% Lycra. They have a little bit more % of wool than the Extremes, but the combination of other materials makes for a sleeker, thinner sock and is not as warm as the Extremes one. From what I read, they are popular with our US military men and women abroad that request things from home to wear on their feet in their boots. I recommend these socks for those that have the right boots for them and have the need for the high wool content and thickness. Otherwise, the Extremes ones may work better for you or the Triple Blend ones if your boots are not sized for additional thickness from winter socks. They may not be as warm, but you would be wearing the right size socks that work with your boots and moisture wicking occurs, drying your feet and creating that warm air pocket of comfort. Your socks and boots have to work together for your feet otherwise one or both work against you. If you plan on wearing sock liners as well, the Carhartt sock liners are quality and comfortable, but they will add more thickness under your socks and in your boots. So, be prepared to have the right size boots if you are planning to wear both Winter wool socks and sock liners as well. Carhartt Men's 3 Pack Liner Socks, Black, 10-13 Sock/6-12 Shoe They will work together as log as you use them together in the right situation on your feet. If you are just looking for socks to keep your feet warm when you sleep or walking around the home, these are very warm, but the Extreme ones may work out better with lesser wool content and may be more comfortable. Stay away from Cotton socks even at home or sleeping in cold weather. Cotton absorbs moisture and your feet freeze.

Keep you warm and are not overly tight
I’ve tried many different brands of high wool socks, but I find Carhartt to be the best. Naturally, the other ones are cheaper in price, but the Carhartt last and they don’t get too tight on the top around my calf over the years they stay soft and comfortable.

Really good sock
So, I am in the process of trying out different wool socks for work during the winter. I work in a power generation field and very often we have to work on power units even if it's snowing. Sometimes you remain stationary if you're troubleshooting something so we don't have the ability to move around and get blood circulating. I'm also a volunteer with my local search and rescue and needless to say, when it's cold out, it's nice to be able to keep your feet warm in cold weather. I have used WigWam socks at different times in my life, but the last time was years ago and I remember them being itchy. I decided to shop around and check different brands and wool blends, and actually bought a few different brands for testing. I actually stumbled accross these Carhartt boot socks by accident when looking for Wig Wams and decided to try them because my work supplies other Carhartt clothing. I had read reviews of other socks coming apart with use or in the wash after a while, so for a test, I decided to follow a process that actually let me cycle these socks every other day. I washed them immediately upon arrival and dried them in my dryer. As every single guy knows, there is only one temperature setting on a drier (hot). I kind of expected them to shrink and that would have been ok, since they run a little large. When I first put them on I noticed two things:1. They didn't shrignk... which is pretty good, and 2. they are nice and thick and soft. The inside of the sock is not itchy like I expected. Instead it was nice and soft next to my skin. Since I had expected to wear a thick, wool sock, I paired this with the Salomon Men's Toundra Mid WP Snow Boot which I will review at a later date. This combination kept my feet warm and dry, even in a couple of feet of snow. In addition, just to test the durability of the material, I alternated the wearing of these socks with other socks by wearing them, then washing them the next day, then wearing them again. I have done this skipping a couple of cycles for almost a month now and I've noticed no change in the shape, elasticity, or warmth of the material. It's still pretty soft and has not torn or worn. Of course, this doesn't replicate long term wear and tear, but I wanted to be able to tell if I could buy more or not. So far, this sock has done all that I asked of it. Key points: Favorable: 1. Soft not itchy, big plus for comfort. 2. The wool/synthetic blend definitely does the job of keeping your feet warm and dry. 3. Although not scientific, my test of wearing/washing over and over does tell me that these socks will be durable, I'll keep looking at them and update if necessary. 4. The material is predictably thick, this allowed me to anticipate wearing a boot that was a little bit bigger. 5. The material has not thinned out. That is to say: it's still nice and thick and feels almost new, even after a month of washing/wearing constantly every other day. Not so favorable: 1. I have little feet (Size 8) the smallest size Amazon shows it the 10-13 which it states should fit a size 6-12 shoe. Although I'm still able to wear the sock, I can feel some of the heel material behind my Achilles. It's not a deal killer, but just be aware of this when ordering. I think if you have bigger feet, you should be ok. 2. In reference to the size, it does ride above my calf almost to my knee. I realize different people wear their socks in different ways. It's not the usual way I wear mine, but hey, it won't keep me from buying again. In fact, I ordered a second pair just because. All in all, this is a good product if a bit pricey for just one pair of socks. If you value your toes, or if you're like me and like to have a little bit of comfort while you're working outside, you could definitely do a lot worse. These socks are good to great and definitely better than regular, athletic cotton socks. I would recommend them. I did purchase other socks and am in the process of trying them out. I'll add more reviews as the time comes.

Great wearing socks.
These are great socks. Soft, comfortable and not too thick to wear with my cowboy boots. My old Carhartt socks are beginning to wear thin after several years of wear. They are pricey, but I expect to get the same longevity out of these.

These socks are amazing for outdoors work or activities in NKY. Very pricey though.

These are easily the best made winter socks I've ever owned. A lot of thought has gone into their design and construction, down to a slight thinning of the weave on the arch where most shoes tie up. While they're not made to be beautiful the overall impression is very pleasant. A big surprise, considering the price and the high wool content was that these beauties are made in USA. I liked them so much I purchased another pair. It's later winter in southern Australia and the weather has turned quite warm, so I doubt I'll get too much wear out of them this season. If they resist pilling and wear they'd warrant 7 stars, they're that good. Amazon's size guide suggested X-large, but at 11.5US I am right at the top of the Large range and the socks fit perfectly. Previous experience with US socks in X-large indicates that it's better to be at the top of the size range in socks rather than at the bottom of the next size up. None of the American socks I've purchased previously (not necessarily made there) have come close to these Carhartts in quality.

I have been wearing these socks at minus 10 degrees whilst feeding my cows and around the house with the heating on and they have been great. I am very impressed and will always buy again for anything but summer wear. Comfortable to high standard and they look like they will be very long lasting.
