Easy set-up, Google Home integration
Transitioning from another app based smart plug that didn't support the app after Threads integration. Already using Emporia for our EV charger, so using the app was not a downside. Google Home integration was a plus, disappointed that it didn't extend to Apple Home. App design is elegantly simple and easily does what is expected in terms of setting schedules and ad hoc control of the on-off switch. Being able to see power consumption is a game changer over the previous smart plug. Expanded smart plug use to our freezers for this very purpose since it also allows you to know if/when the freezer powers off. Overall, a very well done and useful device.

Works well
These work really well and emporia seems to know what they’re doing with these products. I like that they’re usually pretty easy to pair, they react quickly, you can control them manually, and they’re simple. My only complaint is that emporia’s app could use some updates.

Bought these because previous model was recalled
Only in a four pack. The syncing with the wifi was sketchy on the first one but the second was easy.I'm using one for the attic fan monitoring and minimizing power usage. I use a humidity and temperature sensor plugged into this. Schedule to run once a day to evac the air in the attic if the conditions are met.Second one and third one used for Christmas lights. Scheduled to run from 6p - midnight. Helps manage power usage. On Christmas eve thru Christmast day I can turn them on from my phone. No need to go to garage to do it.The app is excellent and intuitive. Great power usage report.I recommend this purchase. No I get nothing for my recommendation. I paid full price for these.

Advanced scheduling plus monitoring
I wanted something for my outdoor Christmas lights which came with better scheduling than the old mechanical timer I'd been using previously. I had found Home Depots "house brand" (Defiant) and tried it first. While they do have a smart plug / timer designed for use outdoors, neither that one nor their indoor ones support usage monitoring. These Emporia ones are a little more expensive but support fancy scheduling plus energy usage monitoring (via a phone app). For example, the smart plug can be scheduled to come on 30 minutes after sunset and go off at 11:00PM. Or for indoor use on dark winter mornings, I have one scheduled to turn a iving room light on 30 minutes before sunrise then go off 30 minutes after sunrise. Makes it easier to navigate the house when it's too early for the sun.The only drawback is you have to have a good internet connection because your usage data goes to Emporia's cloud for aggregation and presentation, so there is a concern that Emporia could start charging you to see your data graphed in the app. Or worse, what if Emporia goes under, will their "smart plugs" still work? Fortunately there's a 3rd party implementation which allows the plugs to be customized to report data to your own "Home Automation" server instead. While doing so likely voids the warranty, if Emporia somehow folds then who cares? So far I've purchased two 4-packs and am monitoring my garage freezer, kitchen fridge, washer, and gas dryer. For those appliances I'm not using the smart scheduling stuff (just monitoring), trying to get a handle on where my main electricity usage is coming from. The other smart plugs are controlling various lights. The graphs available on the phone can help visualize how much electricity is being used and how much they cost to run each day / week / month / year.I also have Emporia's "Utility Connect" device logging data from my SoCal Ed smart meter, which monitors whole house electricity usage. I'm using their smart plugs for more granular monitoring of suspected "high draw" items. Knowing whether the spare freezer in the garage is drawing too much can help me decide to either get rid of it or get a newer more efficient one. The detailed monitoring can help me decide whether the TOU schedule associated with going solar will coincide with my normal usage patterns (like avoiding 4:00-9:00PM). Since California now requires batteries with solar, I need to determine how big a battery I'll need if / when I go solar.

Well Worth It!
Purchased this to help monitor my energy usage. Also needed to pinpoint the usage of my security system to size an appropriate Battery Back Up UPS. Super convenient and easy to set up. Make sure your broadband is dual band and broadcasting on 2.4 ghz. This does not work on 5 ghz. App is smooth and easy to use. Name and group your plugs. Track usage in realy time, by the hour, day, week or month. These have a high amp rating and can handle just about anything you want to put into it. Likely not suitable for power tools, hvac or other large appliances. A TV or small mini fridge should be OK.Don't forget to check out their whole home and circut breaker monitoring system.
