The best purchase I’ve made in a long time!
I smoke, have pets, and love to have candles burning when I’m home. Together this makes a lot of dust and soot. Well, like an idiot, I purchased flat white paint. Why? Can’t tell ya. I usually buy paint I can wipe clean. Anyway, I have an electric wall heater that created a good deal of soot on my wall and ceiling. Not realizing I had used flat paint, I tried to clean using water and soap. Bad idea! I looked up how to clean soot and found these sponges. Since I already ruined an area in my room and I as going to have to repaint at least part of the room, I bought the sponges figuring what do I have to lose? Well! Let me tell, I used two of the sponges on the soot on the ceiling and the paint looks amazingly bright white again! The sponges worked just like the box and ad said they would. I did the entire ceiling in just a few minutes. I didn’t even realize their was a think film of soot on the entire ceiling until I started using the sponges. I still had to paint the small area I screwed up with the soap and water but, thanks to these sponges, I didn’t have to repaint the whole room. I highly recommend these sponges. Like I said, best things I bought in a long time. Amazing!! Thank you!!!

Soot Removing sponge(Crappy)
Did Not remove the soot from my walls very well, I was pretty disappointed! You spend so much for a product and it’s just taking the soot dust off, I’m happy I didn’t buy 2 of them. Our propane stove wasn’t blown out and all winter long it smoked, someone needs to do their job! But I also wouldn’t recommend this sponge! Like my husband didn’t work either. 😝 😝 😝

I did not even know such a thing existed...
I am crying with joy! I am getting ready to sell my house and as I was inspecting each room to determine what I needed to do before putting the house on the market, I realized to my horror that all those lovely "natural" candles I'd been using all these years in part of the living room had created a hideous soot stain on the ceiling. With visions of re-painting bills tallying up in my head, I ran to Amazon to see if there was a solution I just didn't know about. THESE SPONGES ARE IT! Just had them delivered, tested them on a little bit of the ceiling and THEY WORK! It may be slow work as they fill up fast and then I will have to hand wash and air dry them, but that is ok. I am so happy right now!!!!! Thank you whoever invented these little miracles!

Very limited use
They remove soot very well even from flat painted walls. But the sponge fills up with the soot very fast. Then you have to wash it and let dry overnight. So if you have a 3-4 square feet of sooty wall then this is enough. Otherwise it is an expensive learning experience.

Sooty walls be gone
I had guest at my house who used my gas fireplace and didn't know to open the flue. These sponges are removing the soot of off my walls and doors slowly but surely. Nothing else I have used was working at all. You do have to press down kind of hard but if you scrub the sponge starts to deteriorate. Which is probably why the packaging tells you to rub in parallel lines and not scrub. I was surprised that they can be washed and reused. I just wish I didn't have to press down so hard.

Exactly what you need to remove soot from walls and ceilings
This is a product that people need to use to clean soot covered walls and ceilings. This is the only thing that I have used that removes the soot easily and effectively. My gas stove was not installed properly so the air to gas mixture caused soot to spread throughout my home. The cost to have a professional cleaning service come in to clean the soot is very expensive. This is a relatively inexpensive way to remove it yourself, albeit...it requires work depending on how much cleaning you have to do. I found a few dry cleaning sponges in my local area but they are hard to find and are of varying consistencies. Some drier than others and break apart easily. This product is the perfect size/depth and substance. I have a 2500 sq. ft home so in the end, I will need approximately six boxes 18 sponges - that's with a minor layer of soot covering the walls and ceilings. If you have a thick layer of soot, you will need more. Don't try washing the soot off because it will imbed it into the paint. Use a good quality dry sponge like this product and you will get the soot (or any dirt/dust) off quickly and easily.

Didn’t work for me
Our propane logs malfunctioned and created a lot of soot on the walls and ceiling in our family room. Tried to remove some of the soot with these but just ended up smearing the soot and removing very little. Ended up just using Kilz Restoration as a primer (which worked great) and painting the ceiling and walls.

Saved me some time, money, elbow grease
I had a freshly painted white brick fireplace that basically died when we used it without the glass doors. I had soot everywhere. It ran straight up above the fireplace opening and up the brick wall. Yuck. I was sad.I tried detergents, windex, magic eraser, all of that to get it off but it wouldn't work, they just dulled the soot.So I read about this online and got it and it took about 50% of the soot off, along with straight rubbing alcohol. I just kept wiping the grout and brick over and over with this pad (wet) and sprayed on alcohol. Overall, I think I ended up with 75% of the fireplace cleaned off. It still needs repainting to make me happy, but this was acceptable to me as a start. At least it's not as noticeable as it was.The picture shown is AFTER using it. I should have taken a before photo. This is WAY better than before when it was black up to the mantle
