Works great!
This "blowtorch" is designed to work with isobutane cartridges which is exactly what I wanted. However, this fact is not specified anywhere in the product description or the included instruction manual. It just says "butane lighter." I suspected it was designed for isobutane because the promotional photograph shows it being used with an isobutane cartridge. Isobutane cartridges are a mixture of butane and propane designed to work with lightweight backpacking stoves. The gas mixture can be stored under much lower pressure than 100% propane and so the canisters are much thinner metal and lighter weight. Mixing in some propane with the butane makes the gas mixture burn hotter and works better in lower temperatures than 100% butane. You don't need the adapter if you are using a standard isobutane cartridge. I put blowtorch in quotes but this is exactly what this device is. You cannot adjust to a small flame. It is either blowtorch or higher flame blowtorch. This is great for killing weeds on your brick pathway or thawing out frozen pipes that are not adjacent to woodwork. Not a good choice if you need a precision flame in a tight space with flammable materials nearby. In other words, I would not use this for soldering copper pipe in plumbing installation. A standard propane torch would still be the tool of choice for that kind of work. I didn't purchase for lighting a campfire but it would be an excellent choice for lighting a campfire or BBQ.
