Year 5 Mental Maths Targeted Practice Workbook: Ideal for use at home (Collins KS2 Practice)

I bought this workbook for my son's Year 5 summer holiday homework, to help him revise what he learned. The pages are well-structured, so my son was able to work through it on his own. It covers the entire syllabus and is perfect.

Got this workbook for my child. I think it is suitable for year 5 pupils, even though my child does say that they have not been taught one or other thing, but I feel that thismight not be the case. Anyway this workbook is a great way to repeat and to gain deeper knowledge and practice in what she learnt at school.

My 9 year old has been performing adequately for Maths throughout Year 4 so I gave the book to him to keep working through Year 5 with some hesitance as I did not want anything either too dumb or too complex as to demotivate him however I am happy to report that this book has enough variety of questions to keep him happy throughout. Some questions are easy enough to act as quick wins and then quite a few are increasingly challenging to keep my 9 year old occupied for a while. Having said that, I feel that it is not just about answering all questions correctly but really about making the learning process fun and fulfilling and happy to say that this book does accomplishes that.The book has three thoughtful sections and contains activities and tests. This book follows the tradition of Collins's other similar books in terms of the layout and format and provides a certain familiarity especially for the kids who have used these books before so that another plus point.Overall a really good book that is essential for all the practice that is needed to improve Maths, strengthen the knowledge and still have fun while doing all those activities by providing the right kind of challenges to keep going.

The vibrant and engaging layout caught my child's attention right away, making the learning process enjoyable.The book offers a comprehensive range of activities designed to develop mental maths strategies, and the inclusion of audio tests via QR codes is a fantastic addition. The questions are appropriately challenging and age-appropriate, ensuring effective learning. The answers are conveniently placed at the back of the book, making it easy to check progress.The clarity of the print and the quality of the paper further enhance the overall experience. Considering its reasonable price, this workbook is an excellent tool for supporting a child's mental maths practice.

I am using this book with my daughter (aged 10) who finds maths difficult at school. We work at home together on this book doing a few pages at a time. She finds it manageable and not too overwhelming and the constant practice seems to be helping - slowly but surely. The answers are in the back of the book which is really helpful. Well laid out and easy to understand.

My daughter is in Y5 and this book covers the topics they do at school in a similar fashion so it is easy to pick up and continue as and when required. Some of the tasks require a bit of thinking but they are written logically and are easy to understand for this level and in line with the curriculum. There are also QR codes for additional audio tests in keeping with the format. For me the illustrations seem like wasted space but provide interest and engagement - for under £5 this is decent value for nearly 80 pages worth of material. The answers to some of the questions caught us both out and the lesson here was that she needed to slow down a bit and not try to rush through and read more thoroughly - so well worth it!
