I’m very impressed with this purchase. The setup was easy and honestly pretty self-explanatory. I didn’t even need to read the instructions, though I’d still recommend giving them a quick look just to be safe. This is technically my first train set. I always wanted one as a kid but never had the chance. Now, as an adult, I finally have one and it’s absolutely worth the wait. It’s something I’m genuinely proud to show off when company comes over. The setup is simple yet elegant. It’s not overly flashy, but it definitely draws the right kind of attention. There’s something about it that instantly creates a sense of wonder and turns the room into a conversation piece. I set it up in my basement, aka the man-cave, and it fits perfectly. It adds character, nostalgia, and a little bit of magic to the space. Highly recommended.

Long ago I got over the fact that these Lionel Trains are no longer manufactured in America, maybe that will change in the future. Presently, though imported, the quality of Lionel Trains has seen improvements of late. As a long time collector of Lionel, both Post-War and Modern Era, this Santa Fe set is a beautiful addition to my collection. The set arrived in great shape albeit loose in an oversized box, and it was easily unpacked and set up within 15 minutes. Outside of a few couplers on the passenger cars having been shaken loose from a long journey, they were easily popped back into place and the train runs great. Good sound, good control, and very smooth running along the FasTrack of my layout. The price, below MRP, was a bargain and I look forward to proudly running this train. Even better, this review was entirely composed by me without the assistance of AI.

VSR(voice streaming recording) is not supported with Lionel's current app version. Hopefully Amazon sees this review. Advertising a feature that is not available is false advertising. I would request that the manufacturer be held accountable.

Ever have the urge to relive your youth with Lionel trains, only to check the catalog and see locomotives ALONE cost $1,000+?! Here's a way in that, for LESS than $1,000, you can have a complete model railroad empire! Start with the Super Chief (or Texas Special) passenger set for just under $500. (I run passenger trains because a 3-car freight looks ridiculous; whereas a locomotive and one passenger car is prototypical.) The locomotive has SOUND: rumbling engine that increases with speed, bell, horn, and crew talk (all thanks to Bluetooth)! The set comes with transformer and controller, but you should also install the LionChief app on your smartphone for full functionality. (Lionel recently announced it is eliminating the transformer/controller from future sets, offering them for separate purchase. So, look for older sets that include these.) Remember those phony windows with passenger silhouettes? Not anymore! The cars are lighted with full interiors (no passengers, although the locomotive has an engineer and fireman modeled). Add more FasTrack pieces (more on that below), a switch or two, a couple of flashing grade crossings (more on THAT below), a ubiquitous LIONEL girder bridge, maybe a passenger platform, and you are good to go! As for FasTrack, forget your memories of that clunky, thoroughly unrealistic tubular track with just three ties per section. FasTrack is scaled, fully ballasted solid sections with curves in just about every radii you can imagine! (If you're like me, and running your train on carpet, you need not worry about carpet fibers getting in the gears! One word of caution: FasTrack is as close to scale as you'll ever imagine for 0-gauge. That means some of the components are a bit fragile. I found that the hard way with the Grade Crossing with Flashers Signal Accessory. The crossbuck columns are EXTREMELY thin (not like those thoroughly out-of-scale crossbuck you remember from your childhood). I know from sad experience that these suckers cost $26 EACH to replace (from Lionel, includes shipping). Scale? Of course not. They were always toy trains. But leave the rivet-counting to the rivet-counters. These are now toys for us big boys who never left the Land of Let's Pretend. So, get your Lionel on and experience model railroading as never before -- at an affordable cost!

Right off the bat I was very impressed with the packaging of this train. This is my first train set so I don’t have the experience of a seasoned train enthusiast. How ever I believe the quality to be very good and the Bluetooth app is easy to use. Perfect for around the Christmas tree, which is the reason I bought it. Overall, I am very impressed with the string set. Time Will tell on long-term quality.

This is amazing train for the price. It has blue tooth, track sounds , cars light up. Great train if you been looking for one for yourself or gift for someone.
