I was interested to try these seeds to see if they could be used as a substitute for sesame or other small tender seeds with higher fiber.The seeds are tender enough to chew easily straight from the bag. Instructions suggest soaking them first. I did so and found they became too soft for my tastes. I wanted a slight 'bite' to them and while they were not soggy, they were very soft.I baked some soaked seeds lightly and they became firmer, almost crisp.I left the seeds I had soaked and drained to sit moist for a few days to see if they would firm back up. I was surprised to see lots of sprouts from the seeds. These are viable, non-sterile seeds. So, I suppose if you wanted, you could grow your own in your garden. Not sure how to plant or care for them, but if that's your thing, then they can be grown.The bag contains a ton of seeds. Enough for dozens of uses.They didn't ultimately work as a direct sesame replacement. There is a light bitter aftertaste that reminded me of tree bark. Not the best finish for cold use. Baking seemed to reduce that aftertaste, but it was still there slightly.I think I will see what kind of 'cress' grows from the seeds, perhaps providing me another way to use the seeds.

poor germination for microgreens

I saw some other reviewers had issues with the halim seeds being improperly cleaned, but our bag seems to be okay. We’re still working out how we like using them, but I’d like to see if I can sprout and grow some for the garden cress as well. The dry seed I tested wasn’t instantly spicy, but once I finally crunched it, the spice was there. I’d probably recommend rinsing before use anyway to remove any chaff or dust just in case.
