Critics are right: the best or at least at the top 5
Brought a bottle to a friend' wine tasting dinner, opened the bottle after the second wine (Cabernet from Chile) and the taste actually made my friend angry (he is Italian): he accepted the challenge and opened his best olive oil bottle (Italian of course) and we all began an olive oil tasting ( it was amazing with the Cabernet by the way)... Long story short my friend accepted, crunching his teeth, Masia el Altet was better by far than his.The taste is like recently cut grass, raw olives, and a spice I can't single out yet. I must admit my friend's olive oil was awesome, but this Masia is just another higher level.The price is high, ironically it was similar to a good wine bottle in that regard. I would recommend it for the people who want to try something different... those who actually understand what gastronomy is, this presumptuous comment goes for those who think it's too expensive, and I am not saying they are wrong but actually not understanding what one should look for regarding taste: a one time try would not hurt.By the way we all ended up cleaning the plate where the olive oil was served with slices of baguette at first, and with our fingers after. And regarding my friend he later opened a bottle of a good balsamic vinegar (25 years) to pay the offense of thinking his olive oil was better; we did the same thing with it (cleaning the plate).
