This was a great gift idea in theory. until you get the thing and all these little pieces have nowhere to go. They get strung out through your house. The machine doesn’t work properly. It’s a pain in the butt to use. the kids can’t use it themselves because it’s overcomplicated. Half the pieces disappear or have no functionality or real purpose other than adding to the piece count. What a mess.

Does it braid in the traditional sense (3 strands of hair one over the other) no. It's more of a hair decoration styling tool. That said it's still pretty fun to use. My girls are 10 - 16 and they loved playing around with it and helping each other with cute designs. Getting those three on the same page without a screaming match is pretty much the 8th wonder of the world. Will they use this over and over again for years to come? I don't see that happening tbh. Will my youngest pull it out when she has friends over - probably because it's easy enough for them to use it on their own without being a pain or too frustrating that they need an adult's help. I'm not a huge fan of one-and-done toys/games/gadgets so given the fact that this might get limited use in our house I took off a star, I thought about taking off two but the fact that the girls did enjoy it and got along using it propped it's value up in my mind. That said it's a lot of packaging and plastic bits that aren't recyclable so keep that in mind.
