I drink a fair amount of C4 before workouts because I love the beta-alanine tingle, and it always wakes me up without a massive crash later. I usually stick to the Frozen Bombsicle or Skittles flavors, but I decided to give Cosmic Rainbow a shot for a change of pace. It is definitely still very tasty—it’s sweet and fruity, kind of like a handful of melted candy. However, it’s just not quite as nice as the other options they have. I’ve been using C4 Energy Drink for a while now, and while it does provide a reliable energy kick, there are a few areas for improvement. The value for money on a Subscribe & Save plan is decent, but I’ve noticed the price has increased recently, which makes it a bit less attractive compared to other options. When it comes to flavor, I’ve always found C4’s lineup to be a bit odd. This particular flavor wasn’t my favorite—Rainbow is much better, in my opinion. If you’re picky about taste, you might want to explore other options in their range. In terms of performance, it definitely does the job. The caffeine and other ingredients give a noticeable boost for workouts or busy days. However, the lack of transparency about the exact amounts of some ingredients is a bit of a letdown for those who like to know exactly what they’re consuming. C4 is a new brand to me, I just don't see it in the shops in the same way as I do more common brands of energy drink such as Red Bull, Monster, Reign and Rockstar - perhaps it is more common abroad/internationally. So despite being a regular drinker of energy drinks, this was my first time trying this brand. And I have to say that I'm very impresses. The taste is good - I tried "Cosmic Rainbow" and although its very sweet, the inclusion of malic acid means that it has a tartness to it aswell, a little like sour fizzy cola bottle sweets. The level of caffeine (160mg) gives a useful boost and is approximately the same as in other brands' 500ml drinks. I'm not sure that the taurine and betaine included have much scientific backing behind them in terms of efficacy. One thing I do like with the ingredients is that although the drink contains added B3 and B12 vitamins, these are at relatively sensible levels for supplementation - one can contains around 50% of the recommended daily amount of each - I'd rather that it had none since vitamin mega-dosing can be dangerous, but the amount here is relatively low, certainly compared to brands I've come across such as Monster (500%) and Moose (4000%) which seems irresponsible from those brands and would even be illegal in some European countries! All in all, I think this is going to be my go-to energy drink for now and I'll look forward to trying some more flavours on those days when I fancy a caffeine hit from a refreshing cold drink rather than a hot coffee.
