Her books are so raw and engaging. While some find comfort in the rawness by relating to things other people are very often scared to talk so candidly about, others can stand to learn something about people who struggle with addiction, grief, or mental illness. 10/10 book. Review: Realistic Fiction - Kathleen Glasgow’s books are realistic page-turners. I was pleasantly surprised by how she wrote the characters and what they go through. I like that there’s not a nice, neat ending.

Intense
This literary work stands out as one of the most compelling novels I have encountered this year. Its authentic depiction of grief, adolescent angst, anxiety, and addiction is a compelling read. The gripping portrayal of addiction, its physical manifestations, and the challenges faced by those struggling with temptation and unsupportive environments is emotionally resonant. It is a poignant and emotionally taxing narrative of a courageous young woman navigating the complexities of life’s challenges. The world can indeed be a harsh and unforgiving place.

We have teens from the ages of 13 to 18 and they have all enjoyed being able to read these books. The prices are great, and they seem to be lasting a while, so I think they are good quality.

A Raw View of YA Addiction
This was a real and relatable YA story about substance abuse, with good emotional depth. I appreciated the honest exploration of what leads to substance use, the impact on family/friends (and vice versa), and the internal work involved in getting sober. Because the book spans 400+ pages but only covers a few months of Bella’s life, it felt slow at times, and I found myself wishing I’d seen more of her story over a longer timeline. Still, overall a thoughtful and good read.

Kathleen Glasgow is an "auto-buy" for me, and I had been waiting for this book all summer. I was not disappointed. The author knows how to deep-dive into sensitive issues with intelligence and compassion, and there is never a preachy or biased slant to her novels. She tells it like it is. Her characters are nuanced, flawed, relatable, and real. In this novel, we get to know Bella, who, at fifteen, has come to rely on alcohol to get her through her difficult life. A sensitive person, Bella is the one "who does everything." She looks after her complicated little sister, Ricci. She is the mediator for her divorced parents, and she is the friend who steps up. Every time. But when her beloved grandmother passes away and her boyfriend breaks up with her for being "too much," Bella's already unhealthy relationship gains traction. And like every runaway train, there comes a point where it runs off the tracks. That moment comes for Bella, leaving her publicly humiliated, injured, and ostracized from her friend group. An intervention follows, and Bella finds herself in a facility with many other teens--a place that will supposedly rehabilitate her. What follows is a roller coaster of ups and downs, as Bella learns to put herself first for the first time ever. I listened to this book on audio, and the narrator, Gail Shalan, was absolutely incredible. She gave me chills, tears, and goosebumps throughout the entire performance. She was perfect for Bella's voice. And now I must wait for Kathleen Glasgow to write her next masterpiece. Five HUGE stars.
