The cooler gives a through draft of air, making it much more comfortable for a dog waiting in the car whilst you are shopping. I still try to park in shade wherever possible (even if it means waiting for someone else to move!) and don't take any longer in the shop than is absolutely necessary. Its better than tying up the dog outside the shops as too many dogs are being stolen these days.

the temptation for someone to use this whilst driving is potentially there, and the air flow from the back of hatchback or estate car could introduce dangerous exhaust fumes into vehicle
