Process-Based CBT: The Science and Core Clinical Competencies of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

The Future of Psychotherapy
By saying this comprehensive book is the future of psychotherapy, I don't mean that the future is CBT. The authors represent two wonderful "schools" of psychotherapy and in the past (as they own up to) they both guarded their school of psychotherapy as being the one true way. What a change! Now they are seeking common ground for what are those useful specific processes that underlie different perspectives (e.g. what do you do with your emotions, thoughts, behaviors, etc.). Even though this book represents a bringing together of different schools within CBT, they both are saying it is time for allegiance to ACT, CBT, Psycho-dynamic, humanistic, etc., to end. It is now time to get beyond choosing sides and start to focus on what are the "active ingredients" in helping people live better lives. I applaud this and this great book!

The first book based on the ABCT task force recommendations for doctoral level training in CBT. Incorporates well the philosophy, empirical findings, and fundamental principles and processes underlying CBT. Likely to become required reading in CBT graduate programs.
