Must have for your Bruton TruArc 20 compass
Was an add-on to the TruArc20 compass. Fit nicely in the compartment. Loads of handy information and scales for the types of map you are using.

Helpful reference tool. Great to see Brunton return to its roots.
Brunton used to be a very well respected name in compasses and one of the few well-known US brands in that space. But then they went through a bunch of corporate buyouts, and reshufflings, overalls and rebrandings ect that tanked there reputation and product quality. Fortunately Brunton is now under new ownership by knowledgeable and passionate people who genuinely know compasses. Brunton has started to return to form and their new line of products has been great! Enough that I feel confident recommending them again. This reference guide is a good tool. It's sized to fit one of their new overhauled compass models but it works great standalone too. The sheets are for the most part double-sided and held together a non-removable non-magnetic rivet. The Brunton web page version of the listing is a lot more detailed than the Amazon one If you want more information about what you're getting. I'm a professional outdoor instructor and taught land navigation for many years. Creating two different land navigation curriculums that are now widely taught industry-wide. Seriously, there's Alpinist and Outside magazine articles about it and everything. I found these guides to be clear and informative with a lot of helpful information. None of this info is new to me which is good, these cards should not be the way you learn how to do these things. But land nav is a perishable skill, it's really helpful to have guides to refer back to in the field. Along with charts that do some of the calculations for you and navigation scale tools. One nice detail that other similar guides tend to neglect is the information is printed with the understanding that the sheets are attached to a non-removable rivet. It's easy to rotate the other sheets to read the guides without having them in their way. This does break down a bit on the last few sheets and the transparencies. The transparent protractors are helpful but they would have been more helpful if they could be easily removed from the stack. The rivet makes this a very compact reference guide but there is value to having individual sheets be removable even if it introduces a thickness and loss risk penalty. This guide is $25 as of writing. I think it's a better deal if it's bundled with one of their overhauled compasses. Usually it is, but helpfully it is also made available separately for those who want to add it to their existing compasses or just want the guide as is. It's a little pricey for flip guides like this. But it's American made, for the most part very well laid out and has a lot of utility. I wouldn't say this guide is essential, but if you have a little extra money for land nav tools, this isn't a bad $25 to spend.

Worth Having
At nearly twice the price of other “survival” pocket card sets, I was worried that this card set might be overpriced. But I have good news for you – this set is worth every penny.Six cards that are chock full of info, lightweight yet sturdy and durable construction. The set comes in a small Ziplock bag, and I plan to always keep my cards in a small Ziplock for protection. The set is bound at top left corner with a small rivet and has clear plastic protective covers on both the front and back sides.I was disappointed that the Amazon listing for these cards didn’t offer an itemized list of the info printed on these six quick reference cards, so here goes:- Slope indicator guide with avalanche warning guide and avalanche safety tips.- Basic instructions for correctly using a compass (sighting a bearing, triangulation, etc.).- Instructions for using a UTM Roamer Scale.- Advice on what to do if you get lost, water purification, and common knots.- How to estimate hiking time, estimate time of day, and estimate distance.- Charts on wind chill, temperature conversion, and measurement conversions (Metric vs English).- Land navigation tricks and techniques.- Distress signals and instructions for using a signal mirror.- Plus two additional transparent sheets of universal topo map scale identification cards.

Lightweight, thorough set of reference cards that should be in every navigation kit.
These cards are a fantastic resource/refresher for land navigation with map and compass. The cards have a variety of information ranging from navigation, signaling, slope determination, conversion charts, and clear pages with map scales and roamers. The roamers are a little difficult to use given that the pages are held together with a rivet. For this reason, I will carry a separate standalone roamer for use with the map.The cards are printed on plastic so they are impervious to inclement weather. This set is so small and lightweight it will be a permanent addition to my outdoor navigation kit.

Brunton Cards, the Outdoorsy Cheat Sheet
I got this Brunton quick-reference set mainly to make it seem like I know what I'm doing outdoors. However, it turns out to be quite useful. The cards clearly and concisely cover the basics, such as navigation, first aid, and survival skills. They are durable enough to withstand water splashes and can handle being crammed into a pocket with granola bar crumbs. While I wouldn’t rely on them solely for deep wilderness survival, they are great for quick reminders. They are handy and compact—like cheat sheets for outdoor adventures.

Lightweight and durable. A lot of basic info but useful in a crisis
I have been a ski patroller for 13 years and on Search & Rescue HASTY team for four years. This set is a pretty handy set of useful info for the backcountry including navigation and orienteering references. Ultimately these cards contain a lot of pretty basic info but it’s always helpful to have in a crisis—when faculties go out the door. These are very lightweight and seem quite durable. A no-brainer addition to my pack
