Fun for the kids
I bought a few of these recorders for my kids to play with. I didn't want to get anything too expensive as they will be left laying all over the house and probably abused. They aren't the last word in durability, but they aren't particularly fragile either. I've been able to any glue cracks back together pretty easily. One thing to note, they come apart for cleaning the inside. That also makes it very easy to lose half a recorder once kids discover they can disassemble them. I wound up gluing the pieces together so that doesn't happen.

Five Stars
When I was a kid, my cousin had to buy one of these for a class she had. I saw her playing songs and I wanted to do the same. I asked my mother to buy me one and a book to learn with. She did, and I taught myself to play all the different songs in the book. I am 33 years old now and my nephew is 6 and my little brother is 10. Since they have nothing in school with instruments, I decided to teach them myself. Once I got the recorder in my hand, it was like my fingers remembered everything and I automatically started playing. They are not expensive and the various colors are great. They feel just like a really good kind. The cleaner it comes with, i feel, it serves no purpose. Its just a plastic stick. I have an easier time using a baby's bottle cleaner. It works much better. That, or cleaning it with hot water by soaking it. The sound comes out very good. I even downloaded a few songs from the internet to play songs I never played before. Either way, these are great for teaching the kids to play music.

Great beginner piece!
My son seems to likes this and it meets the requirements for the music class at school. I would say that the sounds could be a little better, but it's a recorder soooooo I think we can ALL agree the sounds they make could be better! haha

"Musical training before age 7 can benefit brain function for a lifespan". + The Kids loved it!
"Musical Training Optimizes Brain FunctionMusical training before age 7 can benefit brain function for a lifespan.Published on November 13, 2013 by Christopher Bergland in The Athlete's WayNeuroscientists are discovering multiple ways that musical training improves the function and connectivity of different brain regions. Musical training increases brain volume and strengthens communication between brain areas. Playing an instrument changes how the brain interprets and integrates a wide range of sensory information, especially for those who start before age 7. These findings were presented at the Neuroscience 2013 conference in San Diego. In a press briefing on November 11, 2013 Gottfried Schlaug, MD, PhD—who is an expert on music, neuroimaging and brain plasticity from Harvard Medical School—summarized the new research from three different presentations at the conference. These insights suggest potential new roles for musical training including fostering plasticity in the brain; have strong implications for using musical training as a tool in education; and for treating a range of learning disabilities." Well worth the $3
Under $3 and very well built. Recorder is actually three pieces, but they stay together very well and is very durable. Cleaning rod is just a bonus. For those people complaining about sound quality being a little off. UNDER $3. What the hell do you expect? No I would not use this recorder with the Philadelphia Harmonic Orchestra. But for our grandson . . . it is great! He gets to learn about music & have fun. When he breaks it or looses it, which he will one day. I spent less than a Starbucks coffee on the darn thing. Well worth the $3 for a kid to play with. After all it is a toy, not an Orchestra instrument.

Fine instrument.
Nice recorder, I bought it for my toddler who loves music. I received a recorder in the key of G rather than C. This makes the scale a little more difficult, but the instructions help. For now it's a nonissue since my son is too young to play scales anyway.Instrument is nicely made as far as these recorders go. My old Yamaha from elementary school is a little nicer. The bag is just a thick clear plastic sleeve with a snap on it, I didn't keep it. Cleaning rod has a slot for a tissue/cloth.
