Outstanding German-English dictionary
1.3 Kg - 2.9 Lbs - not exactly a pocket book. I no sooner ordered it at Amazon and told my spouse, when a minute later my spouse handed it to me. It was to be my birthday present next week, a surprise, the quick delivery sure was a surprise. Amazon let me stop and block the purchase. Unlike my small pocket size dictionary with only half as many entries, and no definitions, this is an excellent reference/desk book.I'm also waiting, with Amazon order placed, for the new Henry Strutz, "501" German Verbs conjugated in all tenses. Believe it or not rules and spellings as some with ß have changed in the past 25 years. The new edition is due out early next year. I would recommend both.

Great dictionary and very thorough
Great dictionary! Very complete and easy to use. There are always times when no other source gives you what you need and you can rely on this dictionary to fill that void. I highly recommend this dictionary.

Outstanding value and utility
I haven't written a review in quite a while, but I felt I had to in this case. This is by far the best German-English dictionary I have ever used. Excellent colloquial definitions, with examples of current usage included within the definitions, both German and English. Excellent explanations of various abbreviations used in the individual definitions. An outstanding German grammar review section is included, and really helps with the basics. I am a low intermediate student of German, and I find this reference very useful. The book itself is well bound, with a flexible vinyl/plastic cover. The definitions are very easy to read, and the pages quite durable and easy to turn. Note: this is a desk reference book, and not something you take along with you on your next trip to Deutschland, unless you are moving there!

What's up with the cover and binding material
This is the second Barrons bilingual dictionary I have purchased recently, both suppose to be new and both showed up with torn or cracking edges on the binding and covers. The pages themselves look perfect so far, haven't noticed any damage yet during the initial inspection upon delivery but that binding needs to be reevaluated. The overall integrity of the book seems great though.

Barron's means top quality
Once again, Amazon offers top quality at a reasonable (bargain!) price. I wish I had such books seventy years ago when I studied German, Greek and Latin as part of my classical education. Of course, focus of the books I used in those classes offered strict rules of grammar as well as definitions. The former helped understand what the instructors were teaching.One comment about the only negative: The offer to download free online dictionaries into my desktop didn't work.

German <-> AMERICAN English!
The "revered" German <_> English Dictionary is Langenscheidt, but it is German <-> BRITISH English. If you want to know the American translation of a German word or phrase, or how to say in German something we say here, you NEED this book.It's also lighter than Langenscheidt. :)

Easy to Use
Bought this for my son who is taking German at SMU in Dallas. He says it has been a useful and trusted source for vocabulary and some grammar.
