This is an excellent rangefinder. The optical clarity is great and in ...
After sifting through plenty of reviews for this and other rangefinders, I was dying to try this one out after deciding to pull the trigger on it. It seems you can find a bunch of whiners and crybabies out there for just about every rangefinder on the market and they sure do a hell of a job mucking up product ratings and adding a healthy dose of confusion to the mix. So I hope I can shed some light on this particular model, and rangefinder purchases in general. First off: This is an excellent rangefinder. The optical clarity is great and in foggy, rainy conditions it never fell through for me. After 3 days in rain sighting in bows and rifles, I can vouch for the waterproof body and had no problem at all with foggy lenses or inaccurate readings. The ARC system is a huge plus as a bowhunter and I found it was a great comfort to know both the line of sight and true horizontal distances with the push of a button. For those complaining of inaccurate distances or inconsistency, I'd recommend you take account of your own form while taking readings before bashing this device. A steady hand goes a long way and can clear up the odd off reading here or there. As far as max distance goes, it's clearly stated in the product description (of just about any rangefinder) that max distance is for highly reflective and large targets (best case scenarios). I had no problem generally sighting trees, stands, signs, and more from about 400 yards and closer. Obviously the further out you go the more steady you need to keep your grip and I found bracing against something as if you were looking through a rifle scope was the best bet. I didn't have the opportunity to use it much further than that, but I think common sense dictates the unit's effectiveness across various circumstances. If you're glassing elk from 1000 yards away on a consistent basis, you might want to invest in a higher end model. If you need a reliable bowhunter's companion for anything within a few times your bow range, I'd highly recommend this device. If I had to talk about some cons for this purchase, I would probably have to say that against certain backdrops, the black readings are a bit hard to see. dawn or dusk readings or low light can pose a challenge. However, the unit will take an accurate reading under these conditions. It's just a matter of you being able to read what it displays. I found you can take the reading and then utilize the 30 seconds it displays the last measurement by pointing the device to the sky where the black text has more contrast to be readable. I'd also criticize a lack of a proper lens cover. The case is alright but as basic as it get and I'd probably upgrade to something more deliberate to protect the actual device. I'd also probably go with an upgrade lanyard as the one that comes with is as basic as they come. Hope this helps those who are looking for a solid, entry level rangefinder for hunting. Golfers, I suggest you find a golf specific model instead of whining about a hunting centric rangefinder not finding the pin at 1000 yards...

It kind of does the job, but I'm not real impressed.
The camo pattern is dull looking and not vibrant like in the photo. You can fold the eye cup back to use it with glasses, but the eye relief still isn't good enough to easily see the entire display with glasses on, and the adjustment on the eye piece isn't right to take care of what my prescription glasses do. By adjusting the eye piece I can make the display in focus or the object I am reading in focus, but not both. IIRC, I can't look at a far object and read the numbers clearly. It seems like the adjustment should change everything you see in the eye piece but maybe I'm wrong. I need to read the book to see if it covers that.I bought this to do layout work for our shooting range. It does the job, but as others mentioned, it is hard to get readings on objects more than 300 yards away. I was trying to read off buildings, trees, k rails, vehicles, hillsides, etc. to check distances on our property and just see how far it would work out to. I need to be able to setup a 600 yard rifle range. We thought about using a sheet of aluminum at one end of the property to see if it would let us get a reading at that long of a distance, but haven't tried it yet.

Decent. Should call it a 500 not 1000.
It does not have rangING capability that is advertised. 350 yds is max ranging ability for deer sized targets from what I can tell so far. I ranged some highly reflective targets around 450 to 600. 1000 is not achievable. Will be okay but not for long range shooting. I had a bushnell elite 1500 that ranged up to 1200 pretty good. Something burned out where it only goes to 160ish. That's why I bought this one. Nice and compact. Will be good for bow hunting not rifle shooting at 500 to 1000...

Blah. Unimpressed.
I purchased this rangefinder off of a recommendation from a coworker. The rangefinder appears to do its job at ranging distance, but doesn't display angles and rifle mode has some strange restrictions and stipulations. I wish that Bushnell would've spent a little more quality time with this product as it seems that they just pieced it and its functions together from other rangefinders. This is the cousin or stepchild of rangefinders in my opinion. I'm sure people will love it for its uniqueness and the functions it has for their situations and environment.

Seller is trash honestly.
Honestly I'd give the item 5 stars, but the seller is my issue. The item came already opened, they shipped it in a plastic bag, and I was extremely surprised to find out it wasn't shattered. The item got lost in shipping most likely due to it being in a literal bag.Overall the product does what it says 350 yards to deer which is perfect for bow hunting. The angle works well and the yardage is fairly accurate. Great range finder for the price.0/10 for the seller.10/10 for bushnell making a superior product.

Really good deal
Bought to replace a Hawk LRF400 which I found difficult to see the range as it was displayed at the top of the screen. The Bushnell Scout is so much better I can see the range quite easily and I really like the fact that it shows tenths of a yard. I must admit that I'd had the advantage prior to ordering of trying a friends. It's just a shame that I had to order it from the USA to get a really good price rather than buying from Amazon UK. US seller was really helpful in keeping down international delivery and brokerage charges

I would not recommend this model
It was suppose to read up to 1000 yards, I tried all of the different settings all I could get it to read was 465 yards. I have returned it and am waiting to hear something back. I would not recommend this model.

If you want to range farther than 500-600 yards for fall hunting it would be a good idea to upgrade to a longer range
Performs well, but I do not feel that the product meets the performance claims made by the manufacturer. I was unable to get the range on tree trunks and evergreens farther than 580-600 yards. Bushnell claims that the max range for trees is 800 yards, but I was only able to get this performance on trees with broad leaves before they all fell off this fall. If you want to range farther than 500-600 yards for fall hunting it would be a good idea to upgrade to a longer range model

Not for your Air Rifle!!
Brilliant product for rim fire & centre fire rifles. If you twang a bow it is also excellent in performance BUT if you use an air rifle sadly you are not catered for. For some reason Bushnell have decided to ignore a massive market opportunity by not having data to input for this product. This is a huge misjudgement as this is such a good product. Come on Bushnell! This is not beyond your Company or this product

Scout dx1000 arc

Good for the price. Don’t expect the advertised range
It’s a good rangefinder. It’s does what I need it to do. I only range a deer to max 400 yards. It provides me with piece of mind knowing that I am shooting proper ranges. It is accurate. I have tested that multiple times to within a yard. Good features. Some cons are that it can be a bit slow to produce a range for far out shots. The black digital print is also tough to read especially in low light. I don’t think I would trust it to range anything past 500 yards.
