What am I doing wrong?
I'm a pretty handy guy. Been looking at these for quite a while and when I decided to replace speakers in my car...perfect excuse to purchase these. I have plenty of experience soldering wires together and occassionally practice it to make sure I'm still good - and do it out of boredom. Got these based upon description and reviews say they are great. Are they? According to the chart on the top cover I've used the proper connector for the gauge wiring. I've used a heat gun (on various settings), blow torch and utility lighter. (Don't use a blow torch.) I've used various means to connect the wiring before slipping the connector over it. Results: the connector shrinks first. The seals melt second. The solder doesn't like to melt. Keeping heat on it will cause the connector to continue to melt away. Out of nine I have used so far - out of practice rather than actual use - I have had one (1) where the solder melted and the entire connector turned out good. All others the solder pretty much remained a solid and did not melt much at all. I didn't take out my ohm meter to get an idea of how "well" it worked and with a light load running through it, it may be okay. Any heavier loads - up to the wire's rating - may introduce some resistance and heat at the joint. Hmmm. Maybe then the solder will melt. UPDATE: one month after purchase and since the package is ~$10 I spent a bit of time practicing and may have it down. Remove just enough insulation from the wire and do not twist it. Push both ends in and let them entangle each other and hold. I've been using a heat gun at a higher setting than I initially did and have been moving the gun around more. Again, the connector shrinks first, then the seal and the solder takes its time. I found that the solder melts from the inside - it will shrink but the outside of it doesn't liquify like I expect it to. I've used an ohm meter to gauge resistance and there is very, very little, if any. I've upped the star rating but still don't think it is perfect. I'm liking it better each day.

Quick easy way to join wires together and make a lasting, waterproof connection!
This was my first time using these, so i decided to get a heat gun to use, and they work great. As advertised, slide em on the wire, twist the ends together using a "Western Union wire splice" {easy instructions on Youtube}, then slide the connector over the center of that splice, heat it up in the middle, then shrink the ends and boom, you are done. Works great, and so far more durable than crimp style butt connectors. I'm a computer tech, and prefer solder connections to mechanical ones especially in low voltage wiring so was very happy with the outcome. Lots of sizes in the kit, inexpensive and they work!!

A must when wiring!
Love these things! Hate using the old butt connectors and don’t plan on going back to them. this makes wiring a breeze and looks professional! It feels good knowing the wires are secured and sealed! Great value! Definitely a must when wiring!

Worth it
Works well. Becarefull using a lighter. Heat gun is better.

Good but better alternatives
These connectors are a good alternative to the crush style connectors however, they seem inferior to traditional solder and heat shrink. I had seen others use them in the past and decided to try them. They take a significant amount of heat to activate using a heat gun. I did not try to use a lighter so couldn’t speak upon that method. Overall, they are a decent product when doing some quick repairs however, for a permanent repair I think solder and heat shrink is best.
