Just the right approacj
This is perfect - introduces the word roots with explanations that are clear and focused, and the following pages are challenging enough for my upper level learners but not overwhelming for my struggling learners. I can pick and choose which activities or assignments to use, and I know my students are receiving a good foundation of vocabulary expansion for the future. It also provides them with an understanding that other languages, particularly Spanish, share our language roots (ahem - let the Spanish speakers guide us on this one).

Simple fun activities that does teach Latin & Greek roots. My son likes it.
My son is going into 8th grade and requested help with learning Greek & Latin roots because he thought it would help him with spelling, reading comprehension and science. Just to be clear, my son generally dislikes workbooks. The summer bridge workbook I bought him, he found boring and he completely far less than half. However, he’s been really enjoying this workbook. The workbook is slim, 1/5 the size of a summer bridge workbook but the activities are fun which means he’s actually completing the work. Frankly, for his age, the activities are simple, crosswords, fill in the black, word matching etc. but they *do* drill home the roots and that’s the point. My son has been doing this and alongside the “ninja roots” flash cards I bought on amazon also. There is some overlap in roots so far but they reinforce each other. The flash cards are interactive (with me) and verbal, the workbook is independent and written. I wish there was a book 2 and 3, because he’s definitely picking up the info and there are a lot more roots out there to learn.

Lots of student work. Not much instruction.
Great for worksheets to supplement learning. Not a stand alone for instruction or home schooling.

Well-organized Book to Help Students Build Vocabulary
I really like this book. It's divided into sections - each portion has an overview, practice, and game (there are word searches, crossword puzzles, or other fun ways for students to practice and apply what they learn). This book would be easy for a parent use to supplement his/her child's education and the units are really short and have only five roots each. I've used units in class as a supplementary homework assignment. These lessons would also be great for substitute teachers who need to prepare their own lesson that is both useful and isolated. Because roots are so important to the English language there are always teaching opportunities to point out how these roots are used in real-world/class examples.

Just What It Says
This book is just what it says: ready-to-go learning packets for 40 roots, but it could be so much more! It's a great idea that, in my opinion, doesn't go far enough. The 40 roots are divided into 8 units. Great! But will 8 units last a school year? I don't think so. I was really looking for something that my kids could do for an entire year. I guess I'll have to do that.

Teaching the basics
A friend who is a teacher had this on her Amazon list. I have found root words so useful so I ordered it for her. Then ordered another set for another friend who is a teacher in Florida. Both have been very happy with this item.
