Works well to determine if the gem is a diamond or moissanite vs a CZ or glass. It can not distinguish between a Moissanite or Diamond though. You need to not use gloves with this and touch the metal on the jewelry if you want to be sure that you are not touching the metal. This device uses thermal conductivity to try to see if the gem is a diamond. Diamonds have a high thermal conductivity unlike Cz and glass. So touching metal will register as a diamond as well. If you are touching the metal of the jewelry and the metal plate on the back of the tester it will flash saying the resistance is low hence metal. This tester stopped beeping after 3rd time of using it!!! It’s frustrating because I need to sell my jewelry asap and this junk stopped beeping!! Not recommended! Get yourself something more expensive that really works!! What you pay is what you get! I won’t recommend this junk!
