Q: Why does my house smell like it did before i bought this and after 20 days the smell is coming out of the exhaust pipe?

cause the charcoal can only hold so much stink. Just like a kitty litter box it can only absorb so much moisture before the bacteria overload it. Buy a new charcoal filter for it.

Q: Which end connects to vent hose and which to filter?

If you start the blower motor, you will notice that one end blows air out. The opposite end is where you connect the vent hose to the filter. The blower sucks air through the filter and blows filtered air out of the blower.
