Betty Crocker Vanilla Buttercream Style Icing 400g (Pack of 6)

Okay, we all know it will have a lot of sugar in it, so let's just accept that and move on... I bought this 6-pack of Buttercream to go along with the Betty Crocker Velvety Vanilla Cake Mix 425g 6-pack for a combined price of around £36. Given the cost of a thick 8" Victoria Sponge with Buttercream and jam filling in a local shop was double-figures (I saw up to £20-£25 for one), these 6 for £36 was a delicious bargain! The quality is (as you should expect from Betty Crocker products) excellent and the buttercream (once warmed slightly) is firm but malleable so it's easy to spread out without it dripping off the side of the cake (although gravity takes a toll on us all, so get it in the fridge to set before too long!) I have bought single tubs of this before, but couldn't resist this 6-pack bundled with the cake mix (currently on offer at 17% off). One cake-mix, one Buttercream tub and a small jar of jam equates to a roughly 90mm high cake with a 200mm diameter that you can easily get 8 good-sized slices from! I did notice most of the 1-star reviews are because pots were broken or damaged upon arrival, I would take this as a negative against the delivery service and not the product itself, at best sturdier packaging might be required. For this review I will just state that all 6 of my tubs (and all single tubs purchased prior to this pack) have arrived in perfect condition. Sadly, for my waistline, I will be buying this product again!

Tastes pretty good a secret trick that I use is that I whisk them for about five minutes with a hand mixer and then I add just a little bit of powdered sugar and one cup of milk and it just revives that frosting to give it a nice fluffy creamy taste

I make a family cake every week of 40oz! I know - the boys eat alot of cake. My only cheat is that i no longer make my own icing as this is so cheap and convenient i get it in subscription. It works out at less than £2.50 a pot which is really great value compared to the supermarkets. It tastes great, homemade and is cheaper than me making a butter version. Plus it covers two layers of a 23cm cake i.e. the middle and the top. If I want a chocolate icing I add a little cocoa and a splash of mil to this vanilla one and Bob's your Uncle - it's a chocolate flavour. Although you can get the chocolate one on subscription but I only have so much storage in my little kitchen. We eat this every week and I am so damn fussy - take it as a great recommendation.

Unfortunately, once again, the 2 out of the 6 tubs were broken with foil seal ripped therefore could not be used. Amazon box was fine. Tubs were squashed in product box. Such a shame. As for the product itself, its fantastic, tastes amazing, quick and easy to use and simple to change colour or add flavour. Just a shame two were damaged!
