Q: Do we need a firewire 800 or 400 to transfer videos to our computers ?

You can use Firewire or USB. It depends on your converter. I used USB 3 connections instead because my converter supported it.

Q: What converter can I use to transfer videos to my computer?

There are a number of external devices that will transfer videos from a camcorder to a computer using the camcorder's Audio/Video (A/V) output jack. Do an internet search for "transfer camcorder videos to computer". However, with Digital8 better quality can be obtained by using the Firewire/IEEE1394/iLink/DV jack on the Digital8 camcorder. This requires a special cable and a Firewire adapter card in the computer. Do a search on "Firewire adapters". If you have Windows 10, read through several customer reviews to be sure a particular adapter will work. Also be sure that the cable connectors match those on the camcorder and adapter card. You must also have some software in the computer to capture the incoming video. Windows Live Photo Gallery is one I have used and should still be available.

Yes it will. That was precisely why I purchased the camera. I had a ton of Hi8 and basic 8mm footage that I had taken over the years which I wanted to bring into my desktop computer digitize into mp4 format. This camera worked like a charm for that task. I am now looking for a converter so that I can do the same with some of my old VHS-C tapes.
