NOW Supplements, L-Lysine (L-Lysine Hydrochloride) 500 mg, Amino Acid, 250 Tablets

Lysine helps my mouth, generally. I take extra when I have chapped lips or if I have a cut in my mouth...it really seems like things heal a little faster when I take this supplement. I've been taking this supplement for many years and have noticed no side effects at all. I had previously used this same brand of Lysine in 1000mg format, but the individual pills were just too big for me. I love the 500mg size, they are much easier to swallow and work just as well.

I've been using Lysine for 30 years. I developed cold sores/fever blisters many years ago and thought I had to suffer with the itching, the breakout, the pain and, finally, the horrific scabbing. Thankfully, a chemist that I was acquainted with told me about the causes of sores and how lysine helps. I purchased my first bottle and it's been in my medicine cabinet ever since. NOW brand is 'local' to me...in Indiana and has been run for many years, so I know it's time-tested. I don't have them nearly as often since I've included it a couple of times a week in my diet. I gave my husband and son Lysine for their breakouts and they saw immediate differences in the severity and duration of their sores, even the scabs were less noticeable. Definitely give it a try if you are a sufferer.

Horse pill size, almost can't swallow them

I would really enjoy if manuf. made pills smaller, with less filler, meaning, yeah, they'd have to have more accurate quality to ensure enough desired material was in each pill... but Im ready for that. I would pay 10-20% more, for a smaller pill. A pharmasict explained, by US rules (look it up for your own edification), in order to meet certain standards, each pill can be slightly differently effective, even in the same bottle. There is a permitted range of active ingredients allowed, meaning one pill could have less, another could have more. And also, some pills can not be recommended to be split, because of the literal location in the pill which the ingredients are dispersed. ... ha, "the more you know", right? Seems to be effective for my needs. There is a light sheen / gloss to them, so they're not slick, and dont disolve immediately on your tongue, which is good... just dont delay swallowing it! Interesting hinge lid design. I think i like it. Snaps shut with not much effort.... like a butter dish lid idea.

My boyfriend has used Lysine for years at the recommendation of his doctor. It is supposed to prevent cold sores, and he thinks it does help.

L-Lysine works far superior than the prescription meds for shingles. At the onset, take a few, and within a few days it is gone! The pills are large, but they are not too difficult to swallow. Halfing them may be more advantageous for some individuals.
