Q: How do you attach the lid to the can? I tried for thirty minutes to no avail.

Gosh, don't send it back! I had that thought myself before I came here to see these Q&As. The rubber mallet method worked great for me. The instructions should suggest that. This is the best kitchen trash can ever, once you get the lid on. My fiance has had this same can at least five years, and it's still terrific. Those hinges need to be tight to keep the lid on. Standard Costco 13 gal. kitchen trash bags fit great. But the $40 price is too high, in my opinion. (--Age 65 female)

Q: does this have an inner bucket?

No. The trash bag fits inside just like a regular trash can . BUT... We think it stretches the bag to actually fit more inside, which is good !

Q: Do you HAVE to use their special garbage bags or can you use normal one?

You can use regular garbage bags.
