It works 100%
My wife and I were concerned when our newborn was diagnosed with an umbilical hernia the week after her birth. We watched as the hernia grew over the course of a couple weeks from a barely-noticeable bump to extending out almost two inches. We were told that they usually fix themselves within a year; otherwise surgery is an option once she were to get to 5-6 years old.Things continued to get worse. We would gently push her intestines back through the opening, each time hearing a gurgling/gassy sound so it was evident her digestive tract was impacted. She never seemed to be in pain, but there was no way that this would "fix itself" as her intestines were outside protruding from the gap all day and preventing it from closing. We looked to these bands and ultimately selected this one. We spoke with our pediatrician who was hesitant to endorse the approach (instead preferring wait-and-see). We went forward with it anyways and are thankful we did. It worked beautifully. When one thinks about injuries to joints or bones, braces and casts are used. These things do not fix the issue -- they simply allow the body to fix itself while minimizing the risk of reinjury. To me, this band did the exact same thing. We could feel the gap with our fingers where she lacked muscle. However, her intestines continually popping out was preventing that gap from closing. This band simply sealed off the gap so that her muscles could develop without obstruction. It worked beautifully. We saw results within a few days, mainly that her intestines would stay inside for a few minutes or only protrude half the distance while we were doing diaper changes. With that confidence, we stayed diligent about using the band for the next 4-5 weeks. I think there are some important things to note: 1) never over tighten the band. The band just needs to be in place -- nothing more. Having the band tighter than that gives no additional benefit and could actually be harmful. 2) we would place the band over her onesie. This gave it something to grip onto (because we all know how soft and silky a newborn's skin is) which allowed us to not use much pressure on the band (see point number 1 above). 3) We used started with this band while my daughter was less than a month old. I suspect it would be more difficult the older the child gets as they become more active and that could cause the band to slip out of position more often.I am so, so, so happy that we decided to trust our judgment and use this band. Our daughter has a beautiful belly button and now will not need surgery in the future. This thing was amazing! If you do try this on your own child, please be careful to not over tighten.

Worked fast, and stays in place better than other hernia bands.
Despite all other internet research telling us there was no scientific evidence for umbilical hernia belts actually working, my spouse and I still purchased and used this hernia band. The wide elastic helped this band stay in place, although it stays in place much better when worn above a thin layer of clothing (as opposed to right on the skin, like the baby in the product photo). Our Pediatrician laughed at us a bit, telling us that the hernia would likely reduce on its own by the time our child was 5 years old. She also admitted that it probably wasn't going to hurt our baby, so we kept using it. We posted before and after photos of using this product for 4 weeks. Might the hernia have reduced on its own within 5 years? Highly likely. Am I glad I purchased and used this band for one month and eliminated my baby's umbilical hernia? Absolutely! Could it have gone away without the band? Definitely, but we're still glad we used the product. We started using the band at 6 weeks of age, and continued until 10 weeks. Though there were immediate results, our child's hernia wouldn't stay reduced for long. We kept it on for about a week after it seemed like the hernia was reduced permanently. We also purchased another umbilical binder, "Medical Grade CHILD UMBILICAL HERNIA Belt," that was one-size fits all, and the thinner strap seemed to dig into our baby's skin. We used it only when the Meditex band was in the wash.

So far, so good! Worth the price.
I purchased this item several weeks ago for my 11 month old. Sizing appears correct. She wears it during the day & the only issue we have had is regarding the Velcro portion. The band slips up & down on one side because the Velcro is only on the end of the strap. It stays secure, but if an extra double sided strip for a more secure fit would be included that would make it a 5 star item. After being told repeatedly by the pediatrician to just leave it alone, the hernia was still increasing in size. We were told (as many parents are), that it may or may not resolve on its own. After becoming increasingly frustrated we ordered this product with Prime shipping. After 3 weeks of almost daily use on an active crawler& cruiser, her hernia appears slightly smaller & protrudes less easily. This is definitely worth the money we spent.
