X Y & Zee

I cannot take my eyes off any of the three leads in this mature themed movie but Liz Taylor stole the show playing the boisterous and shrewd wife of philanderer Michael Caine who has absolutely no problem being openly interested in other women with her around. Liz will do anything to hold onto her husband, including (spoiler alert) suicide and seducing his mistress.

Looking at some of the other reviews... Sure, the subject matter is very mature, but it doesn't really even have any nudity. Elizabeth Taylor is AMAZING and the other leads are worth watching as well.

Liz cut her teeth in Virginia Wolf as the husband beater, and she shines in this one with a hint in the end of bisexuality. What looked like the usual boring triangle with glamour personalities took in the end a sensuous turn to a menage a trois. It had redeeming value, after all.

I had forgotten what an excellent actress Elizabeth Taylor was. Michael Caine often played a womanizer and effectively so. Susannah York is perfect as the mistress and closet lesbian. This is an uneasy film to watch but well worth it. Nothing was resolved at the end. As is life, messy situations just get more so.

Entertaining, fun wardrobe and set.

Set in the swinging London scene of the early 1970's, the last gasp of the hippie era clashes with the chic international jet set. The result is this triangular jewel of a movie. Robert Blakeley (Michael Cain) is married to the glamorous, manic and barren Zee (Elizabeth Taylor). Intricate games and a few threads of love hold the marriage together. Into the volatile mix comes Stella, a younger woman who is on the edge and ready for a little shove. Michael Caine and Susannah York are great actors in any right. Mr. Caine particularly shines in this film. However in "X, Y and Zee" both actors are blown off the screen by an inspired comic performance by Elizabeth Taylor. Not often given the chance to play comedy she turns in a well-timed and poignantly funny performance in this Black Comedy of marriage, sexual confusion, and social boredom. It is sad that Miss Taylor was mostly relegated to dramas and not allowed often enough to stretch her comic wings. You can see flashes of her comic abilities in such odd fare as "Boom", "Reflections In A Golden Eye" and "Hammersmith Is Out!" But in this film she soars as a woman of wit and warmth who will stop at nothing to come out on top.

I had seen this movie years ago and enjoyed the acting. Just have never seen it on any premium channel or older movie channels that play older movies. Elizabeth, Susannah and Michael really worked well together. It was a movie I had to watch a few times to get all the details. By todays standards it is not bad but does have a more adult script and you need to pay attention to the psychology of relationships.

Very good. Another rare to achieve in Brazil Actress Elizabeth Taylor's material. My only caveat is the lack of subtitles, even in English, which may hinder the understanding of small details by foreigners. Still it was worth it.

Tre grandi attori all'apice del successo. Un regista mediocre (che aveva portato al successo commerciale i due film precedenti, interpretati da Clint Eastwood, I guerrieri, Dove osano le aquile) che fa un flop non annunciato. Peccato, perchè il tema è godibile, gli attori bravi, il soggetto di Edna O'Brien interessante, le musiche e la fotografia buone... Il film è del 1972. Invecchiato senz'altro, ma comunque visibile ancora oggi. Audio e video buoni. Cosa si vuole di più? Bravissime le 2 attrici, bravo il solito Michael Caine. Sprecata Margaret Leighton.

classico film britannico ,molto bello,mezzo dramma,mezza commedia.guardandolo mi veniva in mente la cosidetta rivoluzione sessuale degli anni 70.Lo consiglio ad un pubblico maturo.

Love it for Liz other than that only mildly interesting.

Produit en bon état ayant satisfait ma nostalgie. Dommage qu'il n' y ait pas de version française. Le scénario est abouti et très subtil.
