Works great on my dining room chairs -- on carpet
What a great product. My dining room chairs had tiny round plastic floor protectors like buttons (with deep straight sides) that sunk deeply into the carpet. You could not move the chairs at all without lifting them completely up off the carpet. The chairs are very heavy so it was very difficult. These nail-on sliders are fantastic! They are slightly crescent shaped so they don't dig into the carpet. I can easily slide the chairs in and out now. You have to use the right size sliders for the legs. I have large ones on the front legs and smaller ones on the back legs to match the size of the wooden legs. You want to use as much slider surface as possible to cover the bottom of your chair legs. Don't use tiny ones on large legs.

There is no need to pound them down flat because people sitting on the chairs will fully seat them (possible pun not intended) These work extremely well when used on our Congoleum-type sheet floor and allow our chairs to slide easily, occupied and unoccupied
These arrived from Bay15 very promptly - I ordered them on a Tuesday and they arrived Thursday. I installed them on our kitchen chairs after drilling a 1/16" pilot hole in the center of each chair leg by carefully hammering them in with a rubber mallet until they just touched the surface. There is no need to pound them down flat because people sitting on the chairs will fully seat them (possible pun not intended) These work extremely well when used on our Congoleum-type sheet floor and allow our chairs to slide easily, occupied and unoccupied, without scratching or leaving tracks in the flooring material. Bay 15 had them at the lowest price on the day I ordered them and I am happy with the product and the vendor.

They work great!
I have wooden bar stools at a kitchen counter above a ceramic tile floor. These glides enabled them to slide with ease. And, they're much quieter when pulled out from the counter. Do drill pilot holes in the chair legs slightly smaller than the nail size to minimize the chance of the wood splitting, and to ensure that they install on-center. The pilot hole lets you tap the glides in easily, making installation a breeze.

works great on wood floors, good value but pre-drill holes
Slides nicely on my hardwood floors and leaves no marks. I was trying to find tiny castors but they cost a bundle. These slides do the job nicely at a fraction of the price. Note: Since the chair was made of hardwood I found it best to pre-drill the holes with a smaller drill bit so it would still fit tight.

VERY BAD NEW DESIGN !!!
Very bad design, the nail comes apart from the slider part when you hit it with a hammer in order to put it in the chair leg, you are then left with a sharp nail end sticking out of the chair leg. I liked the old design where you nailed a plastic part onto the chair leg and then attached the "magic slider" with your hand by pushing it onto the plastic part you nailed on. Not good to need multiple packs to get 8 for 2 chairs. EXTREMELY UNHAPPY WITH NEW DESIGN !!!

Great for sliding, not for protecting
I used these on my dining room chairs, but I ended up replacing them with good ol' felt pads. The sliders are easy to install and seem a perfect solution for skinny-leg chairs, but I was hoping to prevent my beech wood floor from getting scratched. Say hello to swirly scratches if even a grain of salt gets on the slider because these have a hard surface. Felt pads have crappy adhesive and continuously want to slide off, but it's the only way to keep the scratches down to a minimum. I'm sure these magic sliders will work wonders to move heavy stuff around or to sound-proof wooden chairs on, say a kitchen tile floor, that screams every time you inch a chair. But don't use them if you're worried about scratching the surface beneath.

These sliders "were" terrific, but now I have some doubts...
I must edit my original comments from Nov. 2010 as the design of the product has changed. We use to love these sliders when they came in two sections. It had been a snap to replace a worn-out slider with a new one by just replacing the slider part without altering the nailed in insert. The sliders had made it effortless to move our heavy kitchen chairs over our tile floor. Probably due to the wide grout lines in our floor, the sliders did wear out in about 18 months with constant use. (The sliders did not wear out on other chairs used over carpeting that were only moved occasionally.) July 2013 I ordered another package with the same product #08221, but was disappointed when I received one piece sliders with the nails attached. With the new design the sliders may last with chairs used over carpet. However, they will not work for me over my tile since I doubt I will be able to keep using the same nail holes over and over again when the sliders need to be replaced. (When the slider wears down the white material wears away and one is left with a black material that does not slide that easily.) Previously, I did not mind the expense of replacing the sliders about every 18 months since they worked so well with my heavy chairs and because it was very easy to put on new sliders. I have changed by original 5 star rating to 3 stars since I believe it will be difficult to replace the sliders when worn since the nails will need to be removed each time and new nails attached. Also in the new design the white slider section looks thinner, and I fear it will wear out even more quickly. I actually returned the newly designed product so my review is based on my experience with the original product and conjecture about the new one. Amazon changed the website picture from the original one to only a sketch of the new design, the day after I placed my order, so I expect to get all my money back. In the future, I will probably try the glue on sliders. I am not sure when the product changed, but keep in mind that some of the reviews here will likely be of the old product.
