Free delivery on qualified orders. Review: I loved reading through the stories - This is a lovely book. I loved reading through the stories. I doubt the stories are for children. They are of a more serious nature and most are not happy endings. Review: Shame on Aabela Publishing! They have given pixelated, black and white illustrations! - It is utterly distressing to open a book in which you expect to find beautiful, crystal clear and color illustrations but instead find detestable, pixelated, black and white ones. It is so abominable how the publishers have wronged the legendary illustrator Warwick Goble. All his creativity and hard work has been destroyed by these impudent publishers (or I'd rather call them tricksters). I'm in utter shock after seeing what they have done to the illustrations. It is as if a five year old brat found them and was put in charge of including them in the book! A child would start sobbing after looking at the quality! Never in my life have I ever encountered pixelated illustrations. I had such high hopes, but Oh!!! I'm so disappointed now. Even petty publishers have better quality scans and illustrations. This set of stories is well known not just because of the stories... it is appreciated and loved for its delightful and exquisite illustrations by the great Warwick Goble. I'm so disgusted, I've been completely cheated! DO NOT BUY THIS IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THE ILLUSTRATIONS! DO NOT BUY IT AT ALL BECAUSE THEY ARE WRONGING A GREAT ILLUSTRATOR! The situation is appalling!

Lovely book, nicely produced and good colour reproduction of Goble’s watercolour illustrations. BUT this is only a selection from the original 1913 edition, only 30 of the tales, and only 16 of Goble’s 40 illustrations.

Although the stories may be fine, the pictures are ALL IN BLACK AND WHITE!!!!! Warwick Goble is famous for his many COLOR pictures of fairy tale scenes. I was VERY disappointed that the only review of this book didn't mention this fact!!! AND that the description of the book did not mention this!!!!

If you like sugar coated Fairy Tales where "everyone lives happily ever after" then these are not for you. The stories have more in common with the darker un-sanitised brothers Grimm tales than Disney! An interesting collection if you want to understand a little more about Japan.

I bought this book for the Goble illustrations, but I've enjoyed reading the stories as well.
